NFC 2022 Draft Grades – In Depth | Presented by Midnight Maddeness

NFC NORTH

Chicago Bears

A+

The Bears had a top 2 draft without a doubt. 7 out of 8 picks are NFL ready and will most likely get play time out of the gate. Not only did the Bears hit on almost all their picks, they also drafted players to fill spots that were necessary. You really can not ask for a better draft.

Detroit Lions

C+

The Lions didn’t have the greatest draft, but their first round hit at #23. Garrett Wilson making it that far is impressive & the Lions took advantage. Coach Hypemike added Baker Mayfield to the mix in the offseason as well. As a result, don’t be too surprised if this rookie has a historical season.

Green Bay Packers

B

The Packers seem to have continued the momentum into the draft. If their roster wasn’t already good enough, they drafted 4 top tier players- adding to their stacked roster. Premier pass rusher George Karlaftis was obtained at pick #31 one of the steals of the first round.

Minnesota Vikings

B-

The Vikings had an under the radar type of draft. None of their selections were “home runs” or big impact players. One thing they did right though was 3/5 of their selections are going to be starters this upcoming season. They drafted Ikem Ekwonu in the first round to help protect sophomore QB Kellen Mond. That’s certainly a step in the right direction.

NFC SOUTH

Atlanta Falcons

B+

The Falcons had a solid draft especially since they drafted position of needs in the early rounds. In the first round they got the best offensive lineman in the draft in Evan Neal. Neal is going to be a dominant force in his rookie year. Matt Corral and Breece Hall were excellent picks due to Matt Ryan having one foot out of the door already and Patterson starting to get older as well. They would have had a higher grade if they could have hit on a couple more picks because after those 3 picks they did not select any player that seems to be ready to get NFL play time.

Carolina Panthers

C+

When you have 13 picks in the draft and 6 of those being in the first 3 rounds… you would want more than 2 starters. Coach JT was really able to only hit on picks Zach Harrison and Tariq Woolen. Both are really physical players at their position which is what coach JT was looking for in this draft. Besides those 2 players it seems like the rest might be bottom rotation players or even out of the league soon.

New Orleans Saints

B

Coach Cammy had a huge issue to address in the draft which was: Who will be the starting QB next season? The answer is Spencer Rattler. Rattler is really young being drafted at the age of 21 and there’s been a lot of discussion amongst coaches speculating that Rattler may even be the best QB in the draft. He was also able to get a few gems in the later rounds in Chris Rodriguez Jr. and Trevor Penning they have been rumored to get some play time this season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

C-

Coach Mali made a league changing trade when he traded away future Hall of Famer: Tom Brady. So, with that in mind I think a lot of people were thinking the Buccaneers would have selected a QB with his first or second pick, but coach Mali had other plans. With his first round pick he selected offensive lineman Tyler Linderbaum. Linderbaum is not a bad player by any means and he will be a guaranteed starter for the Buccaneers, but looking long term it would have been a better choice to go with a QB. Not choosing one hints at the fact that coach Mali may believe Lock is their QB for the future.

NFC EAST

Dallas Cowboys

B

The Cowboys had a draft that they should be happy about. They selected 3 top tier players with their first 3 picks. They would have benefited more from beefing up their defensive line because that is their biggest weakness. On the bright side they found Gallup’s replacement in Treylon Burks and also added to their young CB core with the young Kaiir Elam.

New York Giants

B

When you have the first overall pick you have all the pressure on you due to all the previous teams who selected a bust with the first pick, but the Giants will not be added to the list of teams who have failed. Without a doubt they got the best player in the draft in Kayvon Thibodeaux. They were also able to get a gem in Travis Jones in the 7th round. So be on the lookout for the Giants young defensive line core.

Philadelphia Eagles

C

Coach KMFO has high expectations this season due to his past performances. Before the draft it seemed like a sure thing that he would have had to draft a linebacker because he only had a few on the roster and the ones he did have were not quality pieces. Instead the Eagles decided to strengthen their secondary by selecting Andrew Booth Jr. and Brandon Joseph with their first two picks. Both are really solid players and will get plenty of playtime this season, but coach KMFO may look back and regret not taking a linebacker.

Washington Football Team

 A

The Washington Football Team had the steal of the first round with pick Malik Willis. Looking at almost every draft board Malik was supposed to be gone within the first three picks nobody ever expected for him to fall to five. Unlike the Steelers they did not hesitate to select their franchise QB. The fit is just so perfect due to Curtis Samuel and Terry McLaurin not having an above average QB throwing the ball to them, but now they can grow alongside Malik while still putting up dominant numbers. The Football Team were also able to select three other starting pieces throughout the draft.

NFC WEST

Arizona Cardinals

D-

The Cardinals want to forget everything about this draft. Earlier in the season they traded away their first round pick which turned into the first overall pick. If that wasn’t already bad enough they had technical difficulties when attempting to select their second round pick so with no communication to the commissioner he had to select a random name. Delarrin Turner-Yell was the lucky young man to get selected. He will never see the NFL field, but he was able to get paid from the situation.

Los Angeles Rams

D+

The Rams didn’t have much draft capital to work with. With the limited number of selections, Coach Que also didn’t make much use for them. With maybe one rookie able to start(big maybe), we can’t give this draft a positive grade.

San Francisco 49ers

B-

San Francisco’s priority in this year’s draft seemed to be to protect sophomore QB Trey Lance. With 4 of their 8 picks they chose an offensive lineman. It is definitely smart to protect your investment, a lot of teams make the mistake of neglecting it in the early years and it takes a toll on the QBs body. They would have had a higher grade if they could have snuck out of the draft with a few DBs, but nothing to be upset about because at the end of the day they had an overall successful draft.

Seattle Seahawks

F

Rumors leading up to the draft were saying that coach Drama was very desperate for a first round pick. He was accused of calling all 31 PML front offices for a first round pick and all offers were denied. Now looking at his draft you can see why he wanted one so badly. The Seahawks had one of the worst drafts out of all PML. They didn’t select a single starter and only one has potential to make the roster
