AFC Mid Season Review

Ten weeks of Premier Madden League football have come and gone. We are officially onto week 11 of the regular season and we are here to check who is leading each division and who is officially the bottom feeder of each division.

AFC East:

Previous Leader: New England Patriots (4-0)

Leader: New England Patriots (9-1)  – The Patriots have been so good this season that even when the user does not play, the cpu still wins games. This shows a certain skill to be able to build a team that can win in his absence. They have been so dominating that technically the user hasn’t lost yet this season as the only loss was in a sim game to the Bills. The rest of the Patriots schedule isn’t a cake walk, however, they will be favored in every game and most likely will come out of the AFC as the number 1 seed.

Previous Bottom: New York Jets (0-4)

Bottom: New York Jets (2-8) – The Jets were the big winners in the offseason with the large number of trades they were able to complete. This no doubt made their team better as a whole, however, it hasn’t translated well on the field. They have two wins, however, haven’t competed that well in most of their games. They have some games left on the schedule that could go their way, however,  unless they have some magic left to use, they will most likely be looking at a top 5 pick at the end of the season.

AFC West:

Previous Leader: Los Angeles Chargers (4-0)

Leader:  Denver Broncos (7-2) – The Broncos have the 1st overall offense and the 6th overall defense. They have blown out most of their opponents and have looked unstoppable in most games. Currently, they are the leader, however, the Chargers and Chiefs both have the same record as them.  With 4 games left between those two teams, the outcomes of these games will go a long way to see if they keep their lead or not.

Previous Bottom: Los Vegas Raiders (1-3)

Bottom: Los Vegas Raiders (2-8) –

The Raiders have had a disappointing season so far, however, this can be attributed to a tough division, and starting a rookie quarterback most games. Daniels hasnt had the greatest season, however, ironically his disappointing performance may lead to the Raiders drafting his replacement in the upcoming draft.

AFC North:

Previous Leader: Baltimore Ravens (2-2)

Leader: Baltimore Ravens (5-4) – The leader of potentially the worst division in the AFC has maintained their lead through 10 weeks. Given the fact that this division is still close means it could be anyone’s division, however, the Ravens have proven themselves going all the way back to last season. Unless the other AFC North teams can pull off some upsets, the Ravens should be atop this division the entire season.

Previous Bottom: Pittsburgh Steelers (1-3)

Bottom: Cincinnati Bengals (3-6) –

The Bengals haven’t had much success this season losing close games, while being blown out in others. Sitting  at the bottom of this division means that something has gone way wrong. They are only two games out of first place, and they have a decent amount of winnable games on their schedule left. If they can figure out how to finish games in the fourth quarter, this team could surprise the AFC at the end of the season.

AFC South:

Previous Leader: Jacksonville Jaguars (3-1)

Leader: Indianapolis Colts (7-3) – The Colts previous coach retired, leaving the new one in a great spot. While he is only one game in, Coach Codes has won his first game against a tough divisional opponent. The Colts will look to continue their  ground and pound inside running game for the rest of the season. They have the running back and offensive line to accomplish this, however, can they throw the ball when the time is needed? This will be the key factor going forward as teams will  play to defend the run.

Previous Bottom: Houston Texans (2-2)

Bottom: Houston Texans (4-6) – It seems the injury plagued Texans have hit rock bottom. After losing to the Colts, they are officially the most injured team at the moment. The roster doesnt have the benefit of good backups, so Coach Cook will need to get creative if he wants to turn around his season.

If the season ended today the Patriots, Ravens, Colts, and Chiefs would all win their divisions with the Bills, Broncos, and Chargers as wildcards. Teams like Dolphins, Titans, and Jaguars would find themselves out on the couch. We have a lot of season left to play , however, those teams on the bubble have little room to work with. If any of these teams suffer any more losses, they could find themselves out of the playoff race sooner than they would have hoped.
