Week 10 – Losing Streak Over

All week Coach Burn has been on the verge of calling the official quarterback change, however, it will not come in this week’s game versus the Detroit Lions. Daniel Jones proactively came into Coach Burns office and told him he will do a better job managing the turnovers. Coach Burn gave Jones another shot this week and Jones delivered on his promise. The game plan this week was simple, no turnovers, no sloppy play, and above all else if the play isn’t there move onto the next one without consequence.

The Lions drove down the field on most drives, using Mayfields speed to get out of the pocket and Johnson’s toughness to get those yards that were needed to move the sticks. Whenever the Lions would score it seemed the Giants would answer in quick fashion. Coach Burn wanted to get Barkley involved early, however, the passing game found quick strike opportunities multiple times in this game. Kenny Golladay exploded for the first time this season, catching three passes for three touchdowns. Late in the fourth quarter with 2 minutes left remaining the Lions had one final drive down just a point. The Giants defense needed to step up for once in the game and that time came when Mayfield got out of the pocket only to throw the game sealing interception to Jabrill Peppers.

Daniel Jones was a man of his word, as he threw no interceptions in this game. He was quick and decisive with his decisions, fitting the ball where it needed to go to the tune of 10 completions for 333 yards and 4 touchdowns. His receivers got open quickly versus the Lions defense. As mentioned before Golladay had his best game of the season catching 3 passes for 160 yards and 3 touchdowns. Toney and Slayton each had two catches for over 60 yards. This offensive game plan was about the deep pass and it worked perfectly.

The defensive side of the ball almost cost the Giants the game. They let Mayfield escape the pocket time and time again. He also had all day in order to throw the ball as they had no sacks this game. Their defensive line is rated as one of the best in the league and to record no sack is unacceptable. They will need to play better in the future if they want to continue winning games.

A 6 game losing streak is finally broken in a game where Daniel Jones throws no interceptions. It’s almost as if the Giants can actually stay in the game if they aren’t hindering themselves with nonsensical interceptions. The Giants need to rack up the wins in order to even compete for a wildcard spot. Up next, they will face off against the defending superbowl champions. This will definitely be a tough but important game for the life of their season.
