Week 9 – Change Is In The Air

After their 5th straight loss the Giants are looking far and wide for a win. This week they play the Texans who are looking for a win themselves. Each team hasn’t played well this season, however, the Texans had an extra incentive in this game. If the Texans scored 3 passing touchdowns and 2 rushing touchdowns then they would be able to select any offensive lineman to upgrade provided that lineman doesn’t give up a sack. This was all the Texans needed in order to motivate them in this game.

The Texans came out swinging as they tried everything they could in order to get the upgrade they were looking for. The Giants defense had no answer for the Texan passing game as Howell and company drove down the field easily every drive in the first half. The Texans were able to complete their goal by halftime and with the help of Daniel Jones and the Giants offense, they had a huge lead going into the second half. The Giants would put up some numbers and finally make some stops in the second half, however, the Texans knew that their lead was too much to come back from as they won easily with a score of 42-21.

Daniel Jones reared his ugly head, essentially throwing the Giants out of another game. He had multiple inaccurate throws for interceptions, however, not all were his fault. Tight End Rudolph contributed to the offensive mess as he dropped a pass right into the hands of the defender that was guarding him. Jones had trouble fitting the ball into tight windows, and some coaches on the Giants staff are wondering if his arm strength is the reason that these interceptions are happening. On tape we can see that when the ball is thrown most receivers are open, however, the defender gets to the ball before the pass can be completed. Rumors are swirling that maybe it’s time to get a quarterback with a stronger arm into the game, that quarterback being rookie Slovis of course.

The defense, which is usually the reason that the Giants are staying in games, gave up from the start. The Giants looked lost in coverage and couldn’t get any pressure versus an offensive line that they should have easily outmatched. The only solace for the team was that their only sack was on the Texans best offensive lineman, thus preventing him from turning into a superstar.

This is the sixth straight loss for a Giants team who are running out of chances to stay in the playoff race. Next week, they face off against another reeling opponent in the Detroit Lions. While the Lions have had a less than expected season, they are fighting for their division and will no doubt be hard to stop. The loser of next week’s game could potentially be out of any playoff race. A change in quarterback may be what the Giants need if they want to stop the interceptions.
