Detroit Cornerstone: Ty Johnson

A few months ago, many asked why would Detroit trade for a running back when they have D’Andre Swift? Well now you see why. In the middle of last season, DET sent a third-round pick for RB Ty Johnson. He had a remarkable season but it went under the radar because he started so late. The front office knew they wanted Ty before the season even started, but due to technical difficulties it took a few weeks to get him. If they had Ty before the season started, he would have been on pace to lead the league in rushing yards and finish top 10 in YAC. Now it actually came to fruition. Ty Johnson is top 5 in the league in rushing yards this season and yards per game. Here is his stat line so far:

259 Rushing Attempts

1618 Rushing Yards

571 Receiving Yards

4 Receiving Touchdowns

Longest Run of 77 Yards

20 Broken Tackles

14 Touchdowns

I mean look…doesn’t this guy deserve to be in MVP talks? If you look at the top 5 rushing leaders in PML right now. They all have way better backs and rosters. Ty Johnson looks like the imposter in the group. All the credit in the world goes to this DET coaching staff making it happen with the WORST overall starting RB in the league and one of the WORST teams in the league. This team is really making a 180. Ty isn’t running behind an amazing OL like Zeke, Chubb, Henry, and these other cats…. He is making things happen off of pure skill and ball carrier vision. It will be exciting to see what Ty does moving forward here in DET.
