Five weeks of Premier Madden League football have come and gone. We are officially onto week 6 of the season and we are here to check who is leading each division and who is officially the bottom feeder of each division.
*Standings are taken from MyMadden
AFC East:
Leader: Buffalo Bills (4-1) – The Bills have done exactly what they needed to in an impressive manner to stay in first place through five weeks. They have an amazing roster, with one of the best quarterbacks in the game, however, that’s only one facet of the team. Their coach has played phenomusly, beating the likes of the Titans and Ravens, who are no slouches either. Their schedule includes a couple of tough games this season, however, if they keep playing the same way, they will have this division wrapped up well before the end of the season.
Bottom: New England Patriots (0-4) – The Patriots have zero wins throughout the first five weeks, however, their fighting spirit has not diminished. Three out of four of their games have ended with a score difference of 6 points. They are competing and keeping up with each team in most of their games, however, they can’t quite close out each game. The Patriots have a lot of work to do in order to catch up with the first place Bills. If Nef can catch some breaks and get on the winning side of these games, who knows we could see the Patriots as a wildcard come season’s end.
AFC West:
Leader: Los Angeles Chargers (3-2) – The AFC West is the only division that has no team under .500 this season. The leader of this unprecedented division is none other than the Los Angeles Chargers. Their coach HD is no stranger to top five teams, however, it seems he may have finally figured out how to use this team. He has them playing well, well enough to beat top teams and coaches in the league. Controversy does always follow HD, as with his game versus the Texans, however, a win is a win and so far the Chargers are winning at any means necessary. Rumors have spun that the superstar linebackers were handicapped for the first 5 weeks of the season, and if this is true, you can expect that pass rush to pick up for the rest of the season.
Bottom: Los Vegas Raiders (3-2)- The Raiders are at the bottom of this division, however, they have a better record than a lot of teams in the league. Their coach, dubbed “floormatt” after the week one loss to the Chargers, have this Raiders team back on track. The week one loss to the Chargers is the only reason this team is at the bottom so I would expect them to compete for the rest of the season. This division could be a toss until the very end so “floormatt” may not be on the bottom for long.
AFC North:
Leader: Cincinnati Bengals (5-0) – When predicting this division, no one could have seen that the Bengals would be leading through the first five weeks. They are not only winning, but winning big. Only one game has been close for them, and they proved during that game that they can close out those games. Joe Mixon is single handedly putting this offense on his back. He is having a career year and is a candidate for most valuable player of the league.
Bottom: Cleveland Browns (2-3) – Maybe Watson should have started out the season actually serving his suspension. This way he wouldn’t be on pace to throw for 95 interceptions this season. The Browns record given the interceptions isn’t what you would think it is. Vet needs to settle down, run with Nick Chubb and let his defense handle the rest. If he does this then maybe the Browns season can be saved.
AFC South:
Leader: Houston Texans (3-1) – This has been one of the most disappointing divisions thus far this season. It was supposed to be a division that was gonna send three playoff teams every season, however, right now that is far from the truth. A lot of controversy happened in the Texans only loss this season. That Chargers loss was filled with a bunch of accusations that could be true. We can see the Texans taking this loss and changing his gameplay to match the same as each of their opponents.
Bottom: Indianapolis Colts (1-4) – The Colts are an interesting team to look at. They have played two close games in the first five weeks. One of these was a win and the other a loss. The other three have been double digit losses. Matt Ryan is not the answer for this team as his interceptions are the reason for the blowout losses. The Colts need to get Taylor 30 plus touches a game, especially running behind pro bowl guard Nelson.
The BIlls, Bengals, Chargers, and Texans are the division leaders of the AFC through five weeks of football. The teams fighting for the wildcare spots at the moment are the Ravens, Chiefs, Raiders, and Broncos. Anything can change especially in the wild wild AFC west, so we will be back at mid season to update these divisions.
