Midnight Maddeness’ PRE DDT- Division Draft Grades [AFC W]

The crew came together to break down the divisions in PML and give each team a grade. Grades/opinions on this article are based on a team’s perceived goals before the draft, utilization of their draft capital, & how they executed during the draft.

Kansas City Chiefs – [MM Grade C+]

  • CB Antonio Johnson (76)
  • TE Tucker Kraft (72)
  • OL Garret Greenfield (68)
  • OL Jarrett Patterson (68)
  • OL Dylan O’Quinn (68)
  • OLB JJ Weaver (65)
  • TE Will Mallory (64)
  • QB Spencer Sanders (59)

The Chiefs made some moves during the draft to add capital next year in the 49ers 1st round pick. With what they had, they primarily attempted to address the lack of bodies at the line of scrimmage. While there wasn’t anything flashy that came from their picks, they did find an immediate difference maker in converted safety Antonio Johnson. Sneaking in some young guys to be under Travis Kelce’s wing, it might be a longevity draft for the Chiefs more than anything.

Los Angeles Chargers – [MM Grade B]

  • DT Brian Bresee (76)
  • OLB Nolan Smith (75)
  • OL Warren Mcclendon (71)
  • WR Jordan Whittington (71)
  • OL Carter Warren (70)
  • QB Phil Jurkovec (65)
  • OL Andrew Raym (65)

The Chargers made tons of moves in the draft and found themselves in the top 10. Bolstering up that front 7 is critical for the lackluster rush defense. With facing an absolute unit like Josh Jacobs twice a year, it makes sense to make those selections. Picking up a young WR to sit under Keenan Allen while he is heading towards the end of his career and also snagging some depth at OL are seen as longevity moves for the Chargers.

Las Vegas Raiders – [MM Grade B]

  • DE Myles Murphy (75)
  • DT Myles Murphy (72)
  • TE Kemari Averett (69)
  • SS RJ Moten (64)

The Raiders were not rich in draft picks after obtaining Davante Adams over the 2022 offseason. With their selections, they decided to bolster up their DL in the Murphy Duo. Aside from that, they were looking to add depth behind their veteran guys like Darren Waller & Jonathon Abram. For the lack of capital, it is a good draft.

Denver Broncos – [MM Grade C-]

  • DE Derick Hall (72)
  • OLB Drake Thomas (72)
  • OL Braeden Daniels (68)
  • ILB Mikel Jones (68)
  • DT Jalen Redmond (64)

The Broncos had 5 picks to work with after the Russell Wilson deal. No immediate impact guys were added to the roster this draft. Possibly some depth within the front 7 but it is doubtful that any of these players change the course of the season. This is the type of class where we would have to revisit next season to determine if they developed properly.
