What are your thoughts about the Bears going into this week?
This is a must win game for us. We are coming out of the bye week, where the entire team got extra rest. We are currently 3-5 and cant afford to lose anymore games or we risk losing a shot at the playoffs. We were in this same position last season and ended the season with ten wins. We have a tough upcoming schedule, however, as long as we play mistake free football we can compete with anyone.
What kind of player do you see when you look at Justin Fields?
Fields is a special player who will be in the league for a long time. He has blazing speed and great arm strength to make any throw that is needed. When a player has those kind of tools at thier disposal then it can create alot of headaches for the defense.
Some would say this team has the toughest remaining schedule ahead. How do you prepare for such a difficult remaining schedule?
Im not sure if it is the toughest remaining schedule, however, it is up there as one of the toughest. We have no wiggle room for the rest of the season. Last season we were in the same boat record wise and we were able to get to ten wins. It will be much tougher this season, however, if we play mistake free football then we have a chance. We will take each game at a time, not looking ahead of any team. This starts with the Bears, where we will look to contain Fields, while stopping Montgomery from getting his x factor. A win this week will go a long way towards the rest of the season.
I want to ask you about the receiver position in general. How have you seen that position evolve in importance over the years and how does having a player like WR Chris Olave sort of factor into that perspective?
The wide recevier postion is one of the most important postions on the team. If you dont have capable receivers then your offense doesnt stand a chance in this league. We saw this first hand last season when we traded Michael Thomas. Thomas was our biggest threat and once he was gone, teams began to play man pressed defense all game. We had to developed our receivers in a unique way to beat the pressed man. Olave was the break out player last season who emerged when Thomas was traded. He earned a superstar development trait and led the league in receptions, however, he was suspended for it. Olave is a player who can beat any kind of coverage the defense throws out there. Just by having him on the field makes the entire team better. Olave has been gone for 8 weeks this season due to injury and suspension. His return will lift the spirits of the entire team.
