What were the keys to the team’s victory this week?
We knew coming in that our opponent relied heavily on the run game. The game plan was to contain the Quarterback scramble, limit the big plays and force our opponent to dig deep into the playbook to show us something we hadn't seen on tape. Offensively we knew that we had to protect the ball. We relied on the run, which opened up the play action, which in turn enabled us to have success in the passing game.
Can you summarize what it was like playing against the Jaguars last week?
The win against the Jaguars was really big for us. Going into the game we viewed it as an opportunity to work in a different approach to our offense. The goal was to focus on getting the run game going consistently, while avoiding turning the ball over through the air. While we were able to execute on offense the goal defensively was to force Jordan Love to beat us moving the ball down field one play at a time, rather than getting beat on deep passes. A few 3 and outs early allowed our offense to get onto a rhythm and play without the pressure of having to catch up. The defense covered their assignments very well and we were able to hold onto our first win in the division.
Can you talk about the development of Travis Dye so far?
We have the luxury in Houston of having 3 Studs in our RB room. Behind Pierce and Kamara there wasn't much playing time for Dye, but the young guy has had a full season to soak up as much as he could. We look forward to adding Dye to the on field rushing attack and witnessing his growth and development into a true Superstar in this rra.
