Transcript: Commanders Head Coach Press Conference

Can you talk about the development of Joe Alt so far?

Alt-J looks like a big Grizzly bear out there! Have you seen him? You can't miss him! Holy h*** the man is 6'8, I'm actually thinking Sam Howell trying to look over him could actually be an issue. We created quite a hole when we traded RT Sam Cosmi for the 2nd round pick we used to draft Troy Franklin. In this division though, with Micah, Kayvon, and Haason Reddick, we need to make sure we can protect Sam Howell. It's exactly what we drafted him for. His development S1 is going to be everything. Training camp should also improve his run blocking attributes and he could be one of the highest rated overall rookies by the end of the year. Look for him to take a lot of snaps this year.

Are you seeing the speed of the game starting to slow down for some of the rookies?

Well, we're only 3 weeks into the preseason so I think it's a little too early to say if they're up to speed. That being said, I love how they've filled the gaps that the team has. The offensive line is absolutely a concern. It's why we invested so much in the draft and plan to improve both sides of the trenches. If we can control the lines, we will win more games. Simple as that. I think the men are ready for the moment. We have a huge game against Jacksonville week 1. They better be ready.

The team has been very fortunate in terms of injuries so far this season. You currently have no one injured. Can you point to any specific thing you've done to keep the roster generally healthy to this point?

We're so happy to make it through preseason without any injuries. Especially with how high injuries were turned up, we played our games, got through healthy, and are now ready to compete at the highest level. We are less than 24 hours away from the start of the season. It's essential we stay healthy early and often throughout the season. We believe when we are 100%, few teams can compete with us. The speed, athleticism, and height. Weapons everywhere, talent in abundance. We love our chances to defend our NFC East title, but we expect plenty of competition.
