How does the loss this week prepare you for the next game?
A loss is always tough, but especially when we had a chance to take the game at the end and failed. Failure is part of the process though, and how you respond and get better is the real test. We have a group here that is not going to let a loss define them and they will learn from the loss and come back better.
Can you talk about what it’s like to prepare to go against a player like Justin Herbert?
Herbert has a well-rounded skill set and is hard to prepare for. You have to respect his throw power, his football knowledge, and his ability to improvise in all situations. We tried to make him uncomfortable out there, but he remained calm and collected and that is why he is one of the best in the league.
What is the status of Trey Smith and when is he set to return?
Trey is progressing well. He won't see the field yet, but we expect him to be ready to go sooner rather than later.
What were some of the contributing factors to the loss this week?
Mistakes early were a key factor. We let them get ahead early with that 27 points in the 1st quarter. That can largely be attributed to those early mistakes, we had the two fumbles lost and a couple picks to start the game. We adjusted well, but not enough to dig ourselves out of a hole that deep.
How much of a problem is J.T. Tuimoloau on the defensive line?
He is a great young talent and was one of the top prospects coming out of this draft. He earned that with his play and he is certainly a problem we have to consider when facing the Chargers. Even if it doesn't show up in his stat line he is allowing other players opportunity with what it takes to shut that guy down.
