Transcript: Colts Head Coach Press Conference

How does the loss this week prepare you for the next game?

It was very telling for our defense. This season we've seen that complete 180 from last year with an average offense and a top 3 defense, we now see ourselves with a top 3 offense and a below average defense. I'm happy for our offense but it's unsustainable and will prevent us from contending. We'll be changing up our defensive styles and start rotating corners so they have fresh legs.

Can you talk about the development of Brock Bowers so far?

He's quickly developed into one of the best young tight ends and is now widely respected in the league and as a result isn't putting up the numbers he put up in our first couple games. Our wide receivers have taken advantage and we still are putting up plenty of yards and points thanks to Brock.

What is the status of Kayshon Boutte and when is he set to return?

This injury hurt the morale in the locker room and maybe that's why our defense was so deflated this week. Kayshon is out for the next 6 games with a broken toe. He's set to return against the Bengals which is sure to be an important game.

What can you attribute to having one of the top-scoring teams in the league to this point?

The young playmakers showing up and the offensive line holding down the fort. Through just 7 games, we have had 6 different players record 100+ receiving yards in a game as well as Zach Charbonnet's current streak of 3 games in a row over 150+ yards despite not getting 20 carries in any of those games. I have called the plays but the team has executed 99% of the time so far.

Did you scout Gee Scott Jr. before the draft? If so, what stood out about him?

Yes, he is a much lower overall than we thought but we scouted him heavily and were considering him if we didn't trade up for Brock. He still is so impressive and so fast and really made us pay over and over this week.

The defense is getting a lot of criticism lately for their level of play. Are you planning to make any changes?

Yes. Plenty of changes in playcalling and who plays where or at all.

What are your thoughts about the Bears just in general as a team?

Bear Down! We love them and hope they win the NFC,
