James Washington on Switching Positions

Interviewer: So, James, we’ve heard that you’ve decided to switch positions and play running back in Philly. Can you tell us why you made that decision?

James Washington: Yes, that’s right. I’ve always been interested in the running back position, even when I was playing wide receiver. I feel like I have a lot of the skills that are necessary to be successful as a running back, such as quickness, agility, and the ability to break tackles. Over the years, I’ve worked on improving my strength and my ability to run with the ball, and I feel like I’m ready to take on the challenge of playing running back in Philly.

Interviewer: That’s great to hear. How do you think your experience as a wide receiver will help you in your new role as a running back?

James Washington: I think my experience as a wide receiver will be a big advantage for me. As a receiver, I’ve learned a lot about how to read defenses and find openings in the field. I’ve also had to be quick on my feet and make fast decisions, which I think will be useful as a running back. I think my experience running routes will also help me when it comes to catching passes out of the backfield.

Interviewer: It’s worth mentioning that you wore number 28 in college, was that because you had previous stints at the position?

James Washington: No it’s actually a dedication to my older cousin who’s currently incarcerated. He’s the whole reason I started playing football. I learned a lot from him. I’ll be switching back to number 28 this season.

Interviewer: Wow, I had no idea. That’s touching. So with no prior experience, what challenges do you think you’ll face as you make the transition to running back?

James Washington: One of the biggest challenges will be getting used to carrying the ball and running through traffic. As a receiver, I’ve never had to worry about holding onto the ball while getting hit by multiple defenders. I’ll also need to work on my blocking skills, as running backs are expected to block for the quarterback or other running backs in certain situations. But I’m confident that with hard work and dedication, I’ll be able to overcome these challenges and succeed as a running back.

Interviewer: Well, we wish you the best of luck in your new role, James. Thanks for taking the time to speak with us today.

James Washington: Thank you, it was my pleasure.
