Transcript: Jets Head Coach Press Conference

What is the status of Chase Claypool and when is he set to return?

Chase Claypool is set to return next week against the Jaguars. His absence has been crucial. We went 1-2 without him in the lineup and have had to adjust our offense. We’ve noticed that teams are press manning a lot more without him in the lineup. Claypool has the speed and prowess to dominant one on one matchups and getting him back next week should help the offense get back on track in the passing game.

What were some of the contributing factors to the loss this week?

Defense. Defense. Well.. lack of defense. We allowed 41 points this week. That is unacceptable. The Seahawks drove down the field with ease and we didn’t force any turnovers. On 3rd and 10, with less than 2 minutes in the game, we allowed a streak to the tightend over the middle in between Roquan Smith and Terrell Burgess. Ashtyn Davis had bruised his sternum earlier in the game otherwise he would have been at the point of this throw. We saw last week against the Colts where he made the big interception on a similar throw to seal the game. This conversion helped set up the Seahawks in field goal range to win the game.

RB Keaton Mitchell is so impressive, how hard he runs is so apparent. What else about his skill set makes him special?

Keaton Mitchell has impressed beyond expectations. He has the ability to take an inside run and force missed tackles and take the ball to the endzone. He had his best game this week versus the Seahawks. He had 4 rushing touchdowns and 1 receiving touchdown despite the losing effort by the team. Mitchell’s acceleration sets him apart from other shifty and speedy backs in the league.
