Over your career, what makes a team better at not turning the ball over as the season goes along? What kind of things you need to emphasize? How much of it is coaching? How much of it is a mental part? Physical part?
We are emphasizing a balanced attack. We get into trouble when our offense is too predictable. More importantly, we need to avoid mistakes early in the game. When we fall behind early we lose our game plan quickly and began to play reckless out there. That's on us as the coaching staff to put together a game plan that will give us success throughout the game. It can mess with you mentally as a coach and a player when you have to dig yourself out of a hole, and that can cause the turnover to pile up even more.
The offense in general is having a bit of a slow start, but it’s early and there’s still a lot of talent on that side of the ball. So is your thought process that it’ll work itself out and the points will come or do you feel like you need to change something, fix something?
We've certainly had our highs and lows this pre-season, but we saw a lot of promising play out there on both side of the ball. Play that can certainly be built upon. I think we are going in the right direction and we just need to continue to carry that momentum forward and minimize mistakes.
The team has been very fortunate in terms of injuries so far this season. You currently have no one injured. Can you point to any specific thing you've done to keep the roster generally healthy to this point?
We have had a couple guys banged up throughout the pre-season, but as you stated we have been fortunate to not have any major injuries. In this game you never know, but we did our due diligence to make sure that players got a chance to get a feeling for the offense and loosen up on the field, but limited it to a point where they wouldn't be risking their health during the pre-season.
