Transcript: Lions Head Coach Press Conference

What were the keys to the team’s victory this week?

the keys to victory this week was feed swift & trust our defense. Baker did a great job of making throws when we had to throw the ball. Defense only gave up the end zone once, which will ultimately not be the case throughout the season but it will help to win some games.

Can you talk about the development of Will Johnson so far?

Will Johnson has impressed me with his ability to take away a whole side of the field. his mixture of speed and size add a different element to our secondary room.

Can you talk about what it’s like to prepare to go against a player like Terry McLaurin?

I knew Terry was gonna be his guy so I wanted to make sure if we were gonna give anything up to him it had to be underneath

How has Davante Adams’s experience in the league helped the team so far?

Davante Adams has added another tool in our crafty toolbox. Teams threw a lot of man coverage at this Lions roster last year but he was able to show the young guys that leverage is everything & that was huge in the development for eli cooks.

What is the status of Taron Johnson and when is he set to return?

he’s currently injured and set to be back in 3 weeks, he shall return as my nickel corner when back healthy.

How quickly can you tell if a young player is a football player if he thinks about it because it seems like at the Combine they’re all saying the right thing and it’s the job. How quickly does it take?

once them pads put on all the talking don’t mean… but in all honesty I don’t think anyone who goes to the combine is a football player. it just certain coaches can make or break a player

I want to ask you about the receiver position in general. How have you seen that position evolve in importance over the years and how does having a player like WR Davante Adams sort of factor into that perspective?

I like to run a lot of 3WR1TE1RB sets… and i believe it’s important to have 3 serviceable receivers that can do different things but be able to routine things on a consistent basis.

Did you scout Keyvone Lee before the draft? If so, what stood out about him?

who?

How do you see the competition level in the NFC North currently?

the competition level is high in the north but pressure don’t burst pipes it make diamonds. if wanna be any good then we would have to make it out this tough division.

How do you rank the biggest changes to this team over the off-season by importance? What do you think were the team's best moves? Was there anything you wish you would have done that didn't get to do?

1. Davante Adams
2. Rookie Oline
3. Will Johnson
one thing I wish I coulda got done was maybe pick up another 6’2 corner. the way pml is changing i need guys that’s gonna protect their pride and not get mossed.

When the schedules were released this past offseason, analysts said you had one of the easier schedules they've seen. Do you see it that way as well?

i’d say go back and look at the schedule and then talk to me.

The majority of your team is under the age of 26. Is that a conscious effort to have such a young team?

I will not say that it is a conscious effort but once u get to a certain age, u start becoming old and slow and of no longer any use in detroit.
