Jets Roster Breakdown Defensive Edition

As we continue with our Jets roster breakdown we get to the defensive side of the ball today. This is truly a studs and duds type defense. Some amazing building block pieces, and some trash cans that should not be on a roster currently let alone starting.

DLINE- Quinnen Williams is one of the reaons people thing so highly of this team. He is a 25 year old superstar DT who is a whopping 93 overall. He has above average speed for the position with 78 to go along with 92 strength. He stands out as a pass rusher with 88 power moves, 90 block shed, 89 pursuit, and 96 play rec. The defense fires when he’s on his game.
John Franklin-Myers is a position less rusher. In real life the Jets line him up all over with her versatility being a huge asset. We expect to see him slide inside as his attributes would match better there. He boasts 78 speed, 90 strength, 91 tackle, 86 finesse moves, and 81 block shed. He’s had his name come up in trade talks but if he remains with the team he should be able to eat next to Quinnen.
Carl Lawson is an old man of the group at 28 which seems crazy. He’s been consistent since coming into the league in 2017. He will play the role of mentor for the next few pass rushers we talk about. Carl has 81 speed with 88 strength to make him another versatile weapon on the line. With 83 finesse moves you can expect him to rush off the edge.
Will Mcdonald was the teams first round selection this year. It was widely viewed as a reach and his madden ratings show it. He has a solid pre season but based off pre draft stature he comes in at just 74 overall. He has below average 82 speed and 69 strength. He has a quick first step with 87 accel. He is a 24 year old rookie star dev with 75 finesse moves so he is an excellent candidate to dev up through a cycle.
Jermaine Johnson was a first round pick in last years draft who is also star dev and 24 years old. He is more of an athletic freak then the others on the line with 85 speed 82 strength and 88 accel. He has 77 power move and 71 finesse so either option will be good to upgrade.
Bryce Huff has been a trade target irl but the Jets love their rotation and have yet to move him. In our cycle he looks to be the odd man out of this rotation as we have already gone 4 names deep before getting to Bryce. He is 25 and star dev so he has a lot of potential value. 83 speed, 89 accel, and 81 finesse moves make him a prime trade target for someone looking for a cheap solid pass rusher.

Linebackers- This is by far the weakest group on the team and possibly the weakest LB core in the league currently.
C.J. Mosley is the highest rated of the group at 85 overall. He is one of those ” much better irl then madden” type of players. An aging MLB with 84 speed and a 22 mill cap hit is just gross all around. With 85 awareness and 94 tackle he should be stout in the run game. Pass coverage is where things will get dicey for him.
Quincy Williams is the next highest overall at just 71. He has the size and speed for the position but with his age and other attributes he is not someone you’d want starting year one.
James Sherwood is the projected starting LOLB and is just 66 overall. 82 speed, 64 zone, 66 man coverage.
Zaire Barnes was a 6th round rookie who might be the user of the group. He has age and his athletic ability on his side. 66 overall but has 88 speed and 91 acceleration.

CB- Sauce Garner might be the top young corner you’d want to start a franchise with. Above average height to go along with 92 speed. He is a superstar with the coveted Acrobat ability. One of the best man cover corners he has 97 man, 92 zone, and 93 play rec.
D.J. Reed is a significant drop off but still a more then serviceable Cb2. 83 overall with 90 speed and 85 awareness. 84 zone with 76 man and 86 play rec.
Bryce Hall is a 78 overall with 88 speed 80 awareness and has 75 man and 78 zone coverage
Jarrick Bernard- Converse was a late round draft pick but an intriguing prospect. He stands at 6’1 and has 93 speed. That doesn’t grow on trees at the corner position. He is a long haul prospect at best thought with his normal dev and 66 overall

Safties- The Jets overhauled this group in the offseason but unfortunately lose Chuck Clark for the year to a torn acl shortly altering signing.
Adrian Amos is the top rated healthy safety at 83 overall. Long in the tooth but still possesses 90 speed and 91 acceleration. He is a true ball hawking center fielder with 71 catch and 80 zone.
Ashtyn Davis has been a top developmental safety in the past few cycles but as he continues to grow older his attributes irl have not followed. He is not the coveted top future safety he once was but he can still provide value for the cycle. He has 92 speed and acceleration. At just 74 overall it will take a ton of content and focus to build him up at this point. He has 74 zone coverage and 68 man.

That’s it for the Jets breakdown on the defensive side of the ball. Very top heavy with youth on the bottom
