Superstar Inbound

The New York Giants have made their first trade of the PML season. They have traded their second round pick in the 2024 PML draft for superstar Free Safety Justin Simmons. The Giants boast one of the worst safety units in the league. After week 1, Coach Burn felt the need to improve the weakest unit of his defense. They made the call to the Broncos and they came to a quick deal. Once sent in, the trade was approved by the trade committee extremely quickly.

Simmons brings the Mid Zone Knock Out and Pick Artist abilities to a secondary that can surely use it. He isn’t the fastest guy with 88 speed, but his abilities, elite jumping, and coverage ability, he will make for a great addition to this secondary. The Giants defensive back unit is very strong with Simmons. Coach Burn wants to have a strong defense and running game and this trade helps with that.

With the free agent pickups that they picked up in week 1 and 2, the Giants were only left with about $8 million in cap space. They knew that getting SImmons would mean that they would have to say goodbye to a player with a huge cap hit in order to afford Simmons’s cap hit of $18 million. After careful consideration and with future planning of the team involved, Coach Burn made the decision to put Leonard Williams and his $30 million cap hit on the block.

Coach Burn had a few offers for Williams, but wanted to get the trade in by week 2, in order to be able to get and use Simmons for the Giants game versus the Cardinals. The Giants settled on a deal with the Lions in which they traded Williams for defensive tackle Alim McNeil. McNeil is a 23 year old second year player who has 90 strength, 72 speed, 74 block shedding, and 76 power moves. He is a young player who after putting some content points into could become a mainstay for the cycle and pair really well with Lawrence.

The trade committee did a great job at approving both trades, but the Williams trade took over a day to approve which wasn’t in time to make the cut for Simmons to be traded. Simmons’ debut will have to wait until week 3 when the Giants face off against the 49ers.
