Transcript: Seahawks Head Coach Press Conference

What are your thoughts about the Panthers going into this week?

The Panthers eliminated us from the playoffs in season 5 of the previous cycle. We never overlook them when we play, but today especially, we have to be on our P's and Q's. If we don't play our best, we won't come out victorious, and that's unacceptable for our regime and its long term goals.

Can you summarize what it was like playing against the Lions last week?

We knew coming in that the Lions were an explosive offense, especially after what they were able to do week 1. We wanted to get out and lean on them early, controlling the flow of the game. We were very successful for the first 3 quarters then proceeded to slack on defense late, allowing them to get back into the game and make it closer than it actually was. Focus on maintaining a lead effectively and keeping the playcalling from being too conservative is key moving forward, especially when we play with leads.

I want to ask you about the receiver position in general. How have you seen that position evolve in importance over the years and how does having a player like WR D.K. Metcalf sort of factor into that perspective?

D.K (we call him DeKaylin) is an irreplaceable piece on any offense. He can stretch the field in ways many receivers just can't, yet he also has supreme run after catch ability and we trust him in just about any one-on-one jumpball situation. It is imperative that we get him going this week and shall search for different ways to do so.
