Transcript: Panthers Head Coach Press Conference

How does the loss this week prepare you for the next game?

The loss this week was certainly a tough pill to swallow, but it's also an invaluable learning experience for our team. It exposed areas where we need improvement, both offensively and defensively. We've already started breaking down the film to identify mistakes and missed opportunities. The key now is to turn these lessons into actionable changes on the field.

We're not going to dwell on the past; instead, we're focusing on our upcoming game against the Vikings. The loss has fueled our determination to perform better and make the necessary adjustments. We're going to take this experience, learn from it, and use it to prepare more effectively for our next opponent. In PML, every week is a new challenge, and we're looking forward to rising to the occasion.

This approach ensures that we don't lose sight of our long-term goals while making immediate changes to address our weaknesses. It's all about growth and improvement, and we're committed to bouncing back stronger in our next game.

Can you summarize what it was like playing against the Saints last week?

Playing against the Saints last week was a testament to the resilience and talent of our team. It was Monday Night Football, the lights were bright, and many had counted us out before the game even started. The Saints are a well-coached team with a lot of talent, especially their young wide receiver Chris Olave, who is a force to be reckoned with.

However, our team rose to the occasion. Laviska Shenault had a standout game, showcasing his versatility as both a wide receiver and he can line up in the backfield. Our defense held strong when it mattered the most, and our special teams were on point, with Pineiro going 3/3 on field goals.

This win has given us a lot of confidence, but we know that each week is a new challenge. We're taking the lessons learned from this game and applying them to our preparations for the next one.

How quickly can you tell if a young player is a football player if he thinks about it because it seems like at the Combine they’re all saying the right thing and it’s the job. How quickly does it take?

Identifying the true potential of a young player is a multi-faceted process that goes beyond just the Combine or initial interviews. While it's true that most prospects are well-coached to say the right things during interviews, the real test comes when they hit the field and are integrated into the team environment.

It's not just about physical talent; it's also about mental toughness, adaptability, and how well they fit into our team's culture. Some players show their true colors immediately, while others may take a season or even longer to fully reveal their capabilities and mindset.

We look at how they practice, how they handle adversity, how quickly they pick up the playbook, and how they interact with teammates and coaches. It's a continuous evaluation process. Sometimes you can get a good sense within the first few weeks of training camp, but for others, it might take a full season or more to really understand what kind of football player—and person—they are.

So, there's no set timeline, but we do have a comprehensive evaluation process that helps us make these determinations as accurately as possible.
