What is the status of Cory Trice Jr and when is he set to return?
Cory Trice jr is doing well. To be honest, I have no idea who that man is, but I’m sure once he returns he’ll be able to contribute to the team in some fashion. We’re looking forward to having him back.
How quickly can you tell if a young player is a football player if he thinks about it because it seems like at the Combine they’re all saying the right thing and it’s the job. How quickly does it take?
It’s easy to tell if a football player has traits you’re looking for once you put on the pads and let them hit somebody. Here in Pittsburgh we run board drills to start every practice. As a coach, my first question to incoming players is “can you hit, son.” In summary, you can really tell the boys from the men once those pads are on and they’re getting hit.
How valuable is the self-scouting process that you go through during the Bye Week? There's the physical piece, but also that component, as well.
The bye week is a great time to hit the reset button and really find out what’s working and what’s not. In order to compete in this league, you really have to key in on what works for your team as a whole. If you’re unable to diagnose the parts of your game that aren’t working, you’re destined for failure.
