Cook’s 2024 Draft Class Grades: Picks 1-10! Pre AND Post-DDT Grades

#1 – NYJ Selects QB Caleb Williams
Pre DDT Grade: A-
Pre DDT Anaylsis: Caleb Williams was the no brainer #1 overall pick, a franchise QB with all the potential in the world. But…his physical traits are a bit underwhelming from the Caleb we saw last cycle. An expected SS/XF dev will help. It’s currently debatable whether trading Sauce Gardner to move up was the right decision though, and this grade is only based on the draft selection. If we were grading the trade for the Jets, it might be around a B or B-.

Post DDT Grade: A
Post DDT Analysis: X-Factor was almost necessary here to help justify the trade up. But it definitely solidified Caleb as being the surefire #1 overall pick.

#2 CHI Selects WR Marvin Harrison Jr
Pre DDT Grade: A
Pre DDT Analysis: The last minute debate for Chicago was whether to draft Marvelous Marv or Xavier Worthy. Ultimately Chicago went with the safe decision, and they were handsomely rewarded with an 82 ovr WR out the gate to pair with DJ Moore. Marvin should get SS or XF dev as well. But do they regret not picking Xavier?

Post DDT Grade: A-
Post DDT Analysis: Well given Worthy vs Marvin’s dev traits…the debate for best WR of the class before taking the field is more hot and heavy than we thought. But otherwise still a great pick for Chicago.

#3 WAS Selects QB Drake Make
Pre DDT Grade: C+
Pre DDT Analysis: I mean based on need, this worked out perfectly for the Commanders to have the 2nd best QB of the draft fall into their lap. I just wonder if the Commanders might have been better off keeping Howell and/or drafting the best player available at this position instead. Drake Maye, based on physicals, was not worth a top 10 pick in my eyes.

Post DDT Grade: B+
Post DDT Analysis: Superstar dev changes a lot about this pick. While I clearly had my doubts about the gamble Washington took, it paid off.

#4 BAL Selects DE Jared Verse
Pre DDT Grade: C-
Pre DDT Analysis: I mean holy cow, at least he’s a 77 OVR so I don’t have to give this a D or F. Not only where they obviously better players available, Verse is such a meh player. At least he comes out the gate ready to start on Day 1, but what a disaster. Even if you miss the your pick, you have to have your draft board set up to avoid this kind of disaster…ESPECIALLY when you trade UP to make this move!

Post DDT Grade: D
Post DDT Analysis: Star dev only solidifies how bad of a pick this was, and the choice to not take Worthy (or set your draft board to take Worthy) is gonna be one Baltimore loses sleep over for nights to come.

#5 ARI Selects WR Xavier Worthy
Grade: A
Analysis: 6’1, 97 speed, 21 years old, and played for the CFB champs. More than enough reason to justify this pick, Arizona hit a homerun!

Post DDT Grade: A+
Post DDT Analysis: This pick was already a homerun, now SS dev makes this pick feel like a dream come true for the Cards.

#6 ARI Selects SS James Williams
Pre DDT Grade: B-
Pre DDT Anaylsis: If there weren’t 2 no brainers drafted right after Williams, I’d feel better about this pick. I just hope Arizona didnt use the #6 pick to draft a sub LB with 70 strength and 55 block shed, even if he is 6’5, and have a bigger plan for him. Don’t be mistaken, Williams still one of the best talents in the draft so this wasn’t a big reach. The trade up to pick 6 was still worth it based on what Arizona gave up.

Post DDT Grade: Same
Post DDT Analysis: Seeing Kool-Aid and JT get SS dev right after hurts.

#7 IND Selects CB Kool-Aid McKinstry
Pre DDT Grade: A+
Pre DDT Analysis: In terms of need, this Colts team badly needs DBs. In terms of best player available, McKinstry was 1a to Brock Bowers’s 1b. Plus you factor in how the top of this DB draft was very weak outside of McKinstry, I’d say Indy’s war room erupted in cheers when they sent this pick in!

Post DDT Grade: A++
Post DDT Analysis: Seriously…the perfect pick just got even better.

#8 HOU Selects TE Brock Bowers
Pre DDT Grade: A+
Pre DDT Analysis: Arguably the 3rd or 4th best player in the class inexplicably dropped to #8. Bowers is without a doubt a generational TE and Houston couldn’t have imagined in their wildest dreams the draft would play out like this. The Texans paid a big price to move up to #8, which now feels like pennies to acquire their shiny new dollar.

Post DDT Grade: Same
Post DDT Analysis: Nothing changes despite Star dev, Brock is still a generational talent.

#9 TEN Selects DE JT Tuimoloau
Pre DDT Grade: B
Pre DDT Analysis: This was a very safe pick. I think you make this pick hoping for SS or XFactor dev or else it’s a bit regrettable. Nonetheless, JT is day 1 ready to start on a Titans team that could use him up front.

Post DDT Grade: A
Post DDT Analysis: Well Dlloyd gambled on getting the dev. Fortunately for Dlloyd, JT was perhaps the best shot outside of Caleb Williams at getting a top dev trait in the class so maybe he knew something I didn’t know.

#10 – JAX Selects CB Kalen King
Pre DDT Grade: C+
Pre DDT Analysis: I mean…he’s a good corner. But a 75 OVR 5’11 corner with 90 speed going in the top 10 is very meh. He does have good COD and Jumping to hopefully make him an immediate impact player.

Post DDT Grade: C
Post DDT Analysis: Normal dev salts this pick even more.
