Transcript: Raiders Head Coach Press Conference

How do you see the competition level in the AFC West currently?

The AFC West right now, it's pretty much a one-team show with the Chiefs leading the charge. They're the team everyone's chasing. And why wouldn't they be? They've got a quarterback who's practically the blueprint of perfection, surrounded by a crew of top-tier talent, and a coach who's got the know-how to make it all click. It's like they've got the recipe down to a science.

But, here's the thing about football — it's one thing to dominate in the regular season, it's a whole other ball game when it comes to playoffs. That's where the true tests are. Come postseason, we'll see if they can keep that momentum rolling and clinch those crucial wins. That's the real proving ground. Until then, they're setting the pace, and the rest of us? We're working to catch up and throw a wrench in their plans.

Your team is one of the oldest teams in the league in terms of average age. How do you feel about the future of this team while not having as many young players as other teams? Do you think having an older team has its benefits?

Regarding having one of the oldest teams in the league, honestly, it's not doing us any favors right now. We ain't seeing those benefits translate into wins, and that's what this game is about at the end of the day. Coming into this situation, it's been a bit of a challenge, no lie.

But here’s the deal – we're working on getting our kind of guys in here, players who fit what we're trying to do, regardless of their age. It's all about that fit, that drive, that hunger to win. Age ain't nothing but a number if you can ball out and contribute to the vision we're laying down.

So, while we respect what our veteran players bring to the table, we're also looking forward, focused on injecting some fresh energy and talent that aligns with where we want this team to go. It’s a process, but we're getting there, bit by bit.

Can you speak to the overall team health?

We're in a great spot health-wise at the moment. Our players have done an excellent job maintaining their fitness and managing their bodies throughout the season, which is not an easy feat. The medical and training staff have been outstanding, ensuring everyone is getting the treatment and recovery support they need.

Having a healthy roster at this stage of the season is a significant advantage. It allows us to put our best team on the field each week and gives us more options in terms of strategy and gameplay. We're looking to keep building on this and maintain our health as we continue through the season. This will be crucial as we gear up for the upcoming games and aim to finish strong.
