We are currently in week 13 of the Premier Madden League and the playoff race is starting to heat up. The league parity is at an all time high and anyone can beat anyone. We have a lot of differences this season compared to last season in terms of how teams are doing and in this article we will see who is at the top and bottom of the league in certain statistical categories and how that compares to their individual records.
Best Offensive Teams
Points Per Game: Browns 10-1 (47)
I am not sure if we have ever seen a team average almost 50 points a game, however, it is a thing this season. The Browns are blowing people out to the point that the sportsbook lines are outrageous lines each week. It is hard to see anyone keeping up with this offense, however, one team did and others might want to watch and see how they did that.
Total Yards Per Game: Browns 10-1 (489.8)
This is another ridiculous statline being that the Browns are averaging almost 500 yards of offense in every game. They are showing such offensive dominance that it doesn’t matter what the other team puts up because it will not even be enough to compete.
Passing Yards Per Game: Bucs 6-7 (354.8)
I am surprised that this wasn’t the Browns, but you can only throw so much when you’re up big in almost every game of the season. The passing attack and resurgence of Baker Mayfield have been the talk of the town in Tampa Bay. It’s almost as if Tom Brady never left the team. They are putting up passing yards at a historic rate, however, their opponents are doing the same. They set below .500 and the sole reason is that the defense is giving up almost as many yards as the offense is putting up. If the Bucs had any sort of defense, they would be leading their division.
Rushing Yards Per Game: Colts 4-7 (192.5)
The Colts have the best ground game in the season, however, it’s not helping them in the win department. They are putting up a large amount of rushing yards, but not turning it into points which is costing them games outside of their division. They need to convert the yards into touchdowns 3 out of their 4 wins have come from the division. They are one game out of the division and it’s looking like they could win the division if they can beat their remaining divisional opponents and get just one or two other wins.
Best Defensive Teams
Points Given Up Per Game: Browns 10-1 (18)
Putting up 47 points a game is impressive, but also only giving up 18 in an offensive driven game might just take the cake. When you have a team who is the best at scoring points and the best at not allowing points, then you have what could be the superbowl champion.
Total Yards Given Up Per Game: Browns 10-1 (295.1)
This goes hand and hand with ranking up the most yards on offense. The team is just playing dominant football and is extremely hard to stop. They are unstoppable as shown by Nef and his injury riddled Falcons.
Total Passing Yards Given Up Per Game: Browns 10-1 (185)
When I thought of this idea to write this article, I didn’t think that the Browns would be on the entire list for being the best. Can someone in the AFC stop them?
Total Rushing Yards Given Up Per Game: Giants 5-6 (98.6)
The Giants boast one of the best defensive lines in the entire league, with possibly the best defensive tackle in the league at the anchor of it. It makes sense that they would be in the top for rushing yards given up. The other reason could be that teams just pass all other teams. Whatever the reason, the Giants sit at the top of the NFC East, and will need their passing defense to show up to stay there.
Worst Offensive Teams
Points Per Game: Giants 5-6 (20)
This right here is why the Giants have not won as many games as they could have. Their offense ranks as one of the worst in the league. The easy answer would be that they are scoring field goals instead of touchdowns, while giving up touchdowns on defense. The harder answer is that this combined with the quarterback play, and unimaginative play calling has led them to this spot.
Total Yards Per Game: Ravens 1-10 (267.6)
The Ravens rank as one of the worst overall, possibly the worst overall offense in the league. They can’t run, pass, or put up any points and it has led them to being the worst team in the league for two seasons now. Lamar Jackson went down and they actually won a game without him. With him at the helm when healthy, his presence should almost guarantee easy yards.
Passing Yards Per Game: Ravens 1-10 (176.4)
Given that Lamar is a rushing quarterback, the smart approach for the Ravens is easily the run game, so it would make sense for the passing game to be lacking, however, that’s not the case. The rushing game ranks as one of the worst but not the worst. Lamar being out may have skewed this number, but his presence as a rusher should be opening up the passing lanes each game. I haven’t watched many Raven games, but maybe Lamar with a 5 wide approach could start to open up the offense.
Rushing Yards Per Game: Jaguars 3-9 (81.8)
The Jaguars have had some personal issues which have resulted in missed games, so this number is skewed from their computer. This might not have changed with their coach at the helm though, as he isn’t known to run much. This offense with TLAW is a pass first offense, and the record wouldn’t be as it is if the games were being played.
Worst Defensive Teams
Points Given Up Per Game: Bengals 1-10 (44)
What do you get when you combine a lackluster offense with a defense that gives up the most points in the league? You get a 1 win team that looked good in their win but not in their losses. The offense has some great pieces, especially with Burrow but his interceptions this season are killing the defense and putting them in all kinds of bad spots. If the Interceptions stop, then the wins will come.
Total Yards Given Up Per Game: Jaguars 3-9 (455.3)
This is all from the computer playing users who took advantage of them. If their coach was playing this number would come down given what was shown in the games that were played. Big things were expected from the Jaguars this season, and still can be given that they are only two games out from first place in their division.
Total Passing Yards Given Up Per Game: Jaguars 3-9 (328.5)
This is all from the computer playing users who took advantage of them. As long as the rest of the games get played, the Jaguars have a shot still this season. It will be tougher with the running back injuries, but they are a pass first team anyway. As long as the quarterback is there, their shot remains.
Total Rushing Yards Given Up Per Game: 49ers 3-8 (184.2)
This is such a strange sight to see. This was a playoff team, with one of the best rosters in the league last season and they have sunken to a bottom five record. The defense has the pieces to compete so it doesn’t make sense that they are giving this many yards up rushing per game. The offense is trying its best, but when the opposing team knows they can just run down your throat and waste the clock, what shot do you have? The only benefit to this terrible season, is you may have a top quarterback fall right into your lap and your back right in it next season.
