Transcript: Panthers Head Coach Press Conference

Are you seeing the speed of the game starting to slow down for some of the rookies?

Absolutely. You know, the transition from college to the pros is like jumping from a fast-moving train to a supersonic jet. But I've been impressed with how our rookies are adapting. It's like watching a complex puzzle slowly coming together. They're beginning to understand the nuances of the game at this level, the intricacies that you can't just pick up from a playbook. It's about reading the field, anticipating plays, and reacting instinctively. And yes, as they get more comfortable, the game does start to 'slow down' for them. It's a process, but I'm encouraged by the progress I'm seeing every day.

The majority of your team is under the age of 26. Is that a conscious effort to have such a young team?

Indeed, it is. Last season, we saw the potential of what a young, energetic team could do, especially as the season progressed. There's a certain vibrancy and resilience that comes with youth. These players are hungry, eager to learn, and quick to adapt. Of course, with a younger team, there's a learning curve, but the growth we witnessed last season was remarkable. We're building not just for a season but for a dynasty. And to do that, you need players who are not only talented but also have the time and the drive to grow together, to bond as a unit. That's what we're fostering here – a team that will mature and excel together.

Can you speak to the overall team health?

As of now, our team health is better than expected, which is always a positive sign at this stage. We've had a few players added to the IR during training camp, but this gives them a unique opportunity. This year for them will be about development, focusing on learning and understanding the game from a different perspective. It's not just about physical health but mental and tactical growth as well. They're involved heavily in the classroom, absorbing the playbook, understanding game strategies, and learning from their peers and coaches. This holistic approach to player development is crucial for their long-term success and health, both on and off the field.
