NFC East Roundup (Week 1)

This is going to be a weekly article where I will take a look at a snapshot of the NFC East games each week and see how each of the teams did and what the standings are. This division, despite half the division being given the top 2 rosters, has been a complete and utter failure of a division. The Cowboys have won the division by default generally, though they have underperformed badly given the team. We will see this year if any other team can rise up and take the division crown from them. The Giants almost did it last season, but failed embarrassingly.

Cowboys 17 – Chiefs 24

The Cowboys overall took a complete nosedive this offseason. Two superstar lineman retiring left a huge gap within their offense line which they replaced with some nice rookies. They clearly had issues in this game and could have the same problem the entire season. This score was too close at the end to give a clear respentastion , compared to how the actual game was. The Chiefs coasted to a 24-3 lead until they let the Cowboys grab some garbage time yards and points. This would look like a close game to anyone reading the box score, but it was far from it.

Notable Statistic: The Chiefs won the game despite only having 202 total yards.

Eagles 31 – Packers 46

This Eagles team hardly had any regression and is once again the top roster in the division. This season is, however, starting just like all the rest. How can someone give up 46 points when they have a cornerback speed tree which gives everyone +3 speed as well as 4 superstar pass rushers, rushing the passer? Well… we would need to ask the Eagles user as his defense was carved up like a Thanksgiving turkey. This was your typical Eagles game since the cycle started, the game was close, and the offense put on a show, however, the defense gave up anything and everything which led to a loss.

Notable Statistic: Hurts 22/35 235 Yards, 1TD 3INT

Commanders 35 – Chargers 55

The Commanders traded away their best defensive piece, for a draft pick. The defense was a massive liability last season and is a great reason why they only won a few games. Well.. that mixed with the interception problem. Miles can put up points and yards, we saw that alot last season, however, the same issue is happening. The offense can’t score more than the opposing offense. Until the interceptions come down and the defense actually makes a stop, the result of his games are going to be the same. The Commanders are also desperately in need of some offensive lineman.

Notable Statistic: Maye 19/36 338 Yards, 1TD 3INT

Giants 13 – Vikings 32

Man what to say…The Giants offense was atrocious last season and it stayed the same way this season. Burn has a QB problem and it’s not the QBs, well maybe a little bit of the QBs. Ewers, despite being upgraded to an 85 overall, was still inaccurate, and it led to a poor offensive showing getting down 20-0. Ewers got hurt with a sprained ankle then all of a sudden the offense came to life. Rookie QB Salter was perfect in most of his passes and led the team to two offensive touchdowns, and could have had a third if either of his receivers jumped for the ball on the last offensive play of the game. They didn’t, which resulted in a Vikings endzone interception. I don’t want to say Burn has another QB controversy on his hands but it might be so.

Notable Statistic:
Ewers 10/21 67 Yards, 0TD 3INT
Salters 11/13 179 Yards, 1TD 1INT

The NFC East is the only division where every team lost in week 1. I think that is a new low for the division. Season one the division had a tough schedule, but I think this season may be even tougher. Someone will need to win games that they are predicted to lose in. My money is on the Giants! We will be back next week to see how week 2 went for the division.

Standings:
Cowboys 0-1
Eagles 0-1
Giants 0-1
Commanders 0-1
