Transcript: 49ers Head Coach Press Conference

Over your career, what makes a team better at not turning the ball over as the season goes along? What kind of things you need to emphasize? How much of it is coaching? How much of it is a mental part? Physical part?

It's a little bit of everything. Us a coaches can continue to share how important it is to take care of the ball. Ultimately it's up to the team to execute on that. We coaching, we practice, we have a philosophy behind how the ball is the most important things for the offense and the defense but the team has to put it in action .

Did you scout Maalik Murphy before the draft? If so, what stood out about him?

We didn't. We already knew who was gonna be there for us in the first two picks. After our conversation with the Ravens we knew what direction they wanted to go. We tried to persuade them but they had their eyes on Travis Hunter. We were trying to trade back to acquire more support for the offensive line but it fell through at the end of the offseason trade deadline. Another team was moving up inquiring about a QB and we didn't want to take the chance of missing out on Sanders but we still know we have to build around him and we are currently in that process.

In retrospect, what would you have done differently against the Texans?

Versus the Texans just wish we would've executed on offense a little better. Without the crucial turnovers that happen in the rezone I'm proud of the performance but I have to let the team know we can't make mistakes like that we have to take care of the ball. We can't afford to give games away.
