Transcript: Commanders Head Coach Press Conference

How does the loss this week prepare you for the next game?

An opening week loss is always hard to take, but we lost in a manner where we felt like we dominated for majority of the game but were a two point conversion and onside kick recovery away from winning the game. If we're going to be honest, I can't be mad at the team by any means. Everyone played a key role. Both teams I think executed their gameplan to the best of their ability but the Panthers just executed things slightly better than us but we won't let this loss define or season.

Can you talk about what it’s like to prepare to go against a player like Bryce Young?

I mean, he's one of the better quarterbacks in the league. He can beat you with his feet or in the air with his arm. Thankfully for us, I feel as if we were able to limit him in both of those regards but the Panthers had other playmakers that won them that game. Overall, it's rare to have as much success as you can argue we did versus a quarterback of his caliber. You have to be able to gameplan for the pass and if that isn't there, being able to stop him on his feet. Which I believe we did, and we executed that plan to perfection.

What is the status of Montez Sweat and when is he set to return?

Montez is still a couple weeks away from a return on the field. We're hopeful to see him on the field for our week four game and back in practice by next week. It was rough losing a player of his caliber in the pre-season games, one of our veterans and captains on the defensive side of the ball but when he's back we know for sure he will be making an impact with every snap if he can.
