Transcript: Saints Head Coach Press Conference

Some would say your roster is one of the better teams in the league. Would you agree with that? Do you see any weaknesses in your team as you self-scout?

We are, in my opinion, the best roster in the league. I think our depth is nearly unmatched and any of our 53 will contribute to wins. I don't see any weaknesses, we don't have 3+ cream of the crop players like the Falcons or some teams, but Olave and Smael are a perfect one leader on each side to propel us.

How do you rank the biggest changes to this team over the off-season by importance? What do you think were the team's best moves? Was there anything you wish you would have done that didn't get to do?

The Biggest changes were adding a bunch of OL depth, a shiny new WR3, and a wonderful rotational edge. I think every move was perfect. We created a deep and good team while saving money for emergencies or trades or to just rollover to next year. I was a little disappointed on draft night seeing Jurrion Dickey go to our rival Panthers, but Duce Robinson has made that disappointment disappear.

Which position battles were most competitive during the offseason?

RB3 and WR3 For sure. We retained all 22 starters, probably more like 24 the way most offenses an defenses work, so the battles that actually held weight were really just these two. WR3 saw AT Perry, Mike Evans, Duce Robinson, and Parris Campbell compete and Duce shined above the rest, compound that with his size and speed and it wrapped up after week 3. RB3 was even more competitive, it just had less on the line as WR3 gets a lot more snaps than RB3. It was between Kaleb Johnson, Kevorian Barnes, Chris Brooks, Damari Alston, and Achton Jeanty. While it looked like it was dead even between all 5 on paper, the film made it much more obvious. Alston and Jeanty were not bad, but they weren't good at anything, and while Kaleb had the experience and skillset, his vision and burst through the hole left a lot to be desired. Chris Brooks and Kevorian Barnes were the final two and we made them rock paper-scissors for it.
