Transcript: Chargers Head Coach Press Conference

How quickly can you tell if a young player is a football player if he thinks about it because it seems like at the Combine they’re all saying the right thing and it’s the job. How quickly does it take?

There are ways to tell, whether it's the $100 in the playbook and you catch em at the combine or it's you eventually notice they're not watching enough tape. Football players aren't great actors luckily, find who has the passion, the need to be better, and find who's there to cash a check. Football is a job and these players deserve all the money they're making, probably more, but our goal as a team is to be better and win, they have their agents and families to help focus on the financial side. If I don't have their full attention, if this isn't their passion, we'll find out, to answer your question though if a player doesn't have that fire or they've lost it, you'll notice sooner than you think.

Can you describe how important it was to get a win at home this week?

Huge, back to our winning ways is important enough, but we were able to bring the crowd with us. I want the Chargers to be THE football team from California, right now I'd say the Rams and 49ers are more relevant. Soon though, Bolt Up!

How much of a problem is Chase Young on the defensive line?

He wasn't. we ran with ease and were much more concerned with Demario Davis at the linebacker level than Chase Young who isn't even the best defensive linemen on his team.

Did you scout Taliese Fuaga before the draft? If so, what stood out about him?

Yes, I did a lot of scouting on the offensive linemen and I didn't love Fuaga. And when I say that I mean I thought he was a late first rounder, maybe early second. 14 wasn't a bad place to take him and as with every player I don't expect greatness from, I hope with all my heart to be proven wrong. He's got a good base and is very versatile.
