Steelers Offseason Preview

pAlright so I plan on doing this for every single team but for now I’m gonna start with the Pittsburgh Steelers and go in draft order until we get through the remaining teams and then the teams that are in the playoffs will go through as they are eliminated.

NOTE: This is assuming that the Steelers lose week 18 against the Bengalsp
pStarting with the Pittsburgh Steelers at 2-15 Justin fields has not completely emerged as the starting quarterback or the franchise quarterback I would say, finishing the season with 17 touchdowns and 53 picks. Depending on what the draft class looks like at quarterback could determine whether the steelers are sticking with Justin Fields taking maybe best player available or trading out of this pick for a big return especially because we know season 1 how important and valuable the draft picks are.

Notable Expiring Contracts:
82 TE Pat Freiermiuth
82 HB Jaylen Warren
76 QB Justin Fields
84 HB Najee Harris
90 RE Cam Heyward

Roster Needs:
Depending on potential resigns and how free agency goes the current Steelers needs are
WR, G, LE, DT, CB, SS.

Resources:
1st overall pick
2nd, 3rd, 4th round picks
2 5th round picks
5 7th round picks

2025 Highest paid players:
TJ Watt $30.4 million
Minkah Fitzpatrick $22.4 million
Alex Highsmith $18 million
MLB Patrick Queen $17.7 million
Larry Ogunjobi $10.5 million
LG Isaac Seumalo $10.2 million

Summary:
The Steelers are projected to have probably the most valuable asset in the entire league with the first overall pick and plenty of draft picks after that as well. Not a ton of money to be spent in free agency but also not a ton of potential losses at least in terms of notable players that would be difficult to replace, besides Cam Heyward. Fields will likely be able to stay on a relatively inexpensive contract. The Steelers could either take the best player available at #1, take their potential quarterback, or trade out and gather resources for the rest of the cycle. The roster does have a decent amount of holes but also has a lot of resources in the later rounds to be able to spend and try and patch these holes. Obviously the Steelers did not have the opening season that they wanted but they have the chance to set themselves up well for the rest of the cycle with this first off season.
