This will be a weekly series where I will be looking at the box score and giving a summary/ my thoughts of how I felt each game went if I was able to watch it. This may change as the season goes on and the article progresses but for now this is how it is.
Panthers 31 VS Falcons 45
This game was about pure bragging rights. The records didn’t seem to matter and the draft picks were already set. It was purely about who is the best and the Falcons proved that they were the best team here and got a little bit of momentum going into next season. I can see both of these quarterbacks not being the starters next season, however, Penix got the better of Young in this one. If the Falcons feel like they can play with Penix then it could set them up to get an impact player instead of reaching for a quarterback. Penix threw 3 touchdowns and 1 interception compared to Young’s 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. He isn’t the answer in Carolina and with pick 2, I don’t see how JT doesnt draft Milroe at that spot.
Jaguars 30 VS Colts 41
I am not sure what’s going on with the Jags but hopefully the computer games will be stopped once we get to next season. In any news, Cb locked up the division with this win and I’d like to congratulate him on winning one that not many had picked to win.
Vikings 46 VS Lions 49
This was a preview of what the NFC championship could look like and it didn’t disappoint. Both of these teams lit up the scoreboard. 9 touchdowns and only 1 interception thrown gives you an explosively offensive game that came down to the wire. I don’t know how he is doing it but Spdot being pinpoint with these lower tier quarterbacks should be talked about more. We got guys throwing more than 30 interceptions with some of the best and most accurate quarterbacks then we got Spdot throwing for 6 touchdowns and 0 interceptions with Sam Darnold. When you can put up this amount of offense with these guys, it’s going to be hard to stop him when he gets a real quarterback. Nonetheless, this game was for bragging rights and could be the thing that propels the Lions to the next level.
Bears 14 VS Packer 23
This was a close game between two good users. It was a defensive battle that hasn’t been seen much this season. Caleb has had the greatest rookie season. He threw for a lot of touchdowns and yards but his interceptions have cost him his abilities. This could end up being a good thing if Ke can get him back to form but without the interceptions. The Packers have not had the season that most expected. They were right there at the end fighting for the last playoff spot but came up just short. This win over a good division opponent should hopefully propel them into the next season. This division will be interesting as I expect both of these teams to do better than this season.
Texans 45 VS Titans 14
This game is wild on the stat sheet. To get blown out like this while intercepting the opposing quarterback 4 times shows a complete meltdown offensively. When we take a look at the box score, Levis threw 5 interceptions which is the clear reason why the score ended up the way it was but the question is how. If your defense is playing well enough to force 4 interceptions, why keep giving the ball back? Why not try to run the ball more? I can’t give you an answer for this but the loss secured Miles a top draft pick and the real question will be where he goes with this? Levis was top in the league in interceptions so I would assume a quarterback is in play but the team does have other holes.
Commanders 30 VS Cowboys 40
This game didn’t matter in the end but both teams ended it playing like they did during the season. Daniels has had a fantastic rookie season if you take away the interceptions. He has moved the ball with ease and scored touchdowns in a multitude of ways. He is the perfect quarterback in terms of arm strength and speed but the user decision making has turned him into a normal quarterback. The good news is that he has plenty of time to develop into a superstar. The Cowboys are losing Prescott next season so it’ll be interesting if their offense can run the same without him. Without the threat of his accuracy I can see more teams stacking the box. Drama won the division, but can he make a noise in the playoffs? Future Burn says no he doesn’t.
Bills 21 VS Patriots 56
The fall of the Bills and Josh Allen might have to be studied. Allen and the Bills had the hottest start of any team in the league. It’s ironic that they fell to become one of the worst second half season teams in the league. In a game between these two teams the Bills have the edge in every way, however, the Patriots and Maye outplayed them. Maye out dueled Allen and came close to having Allen lose his abilities. Maye was able to carve up the Bills defense to a tune of 16/19, 330 yards and 4 touchdowns thrown. Maye did whatever he wanted and the Patriots showed that just because they didn’t officially win the division, that doesn’t mean that they are not the best team in the division.
Browns 35 VS Ravens 7
This was supposed to be the game that determined the division, however, it ended up just being another run of the mill AFC North game. The AFC North was probably the worst division this season and given how good the rosters were it was shocking. The Ravens did have some personal things going on so here’s hoping they can come back next season and give the Browns more of a fight. Nonetheless, this was a great win and a great season from HD and the Browns. A Lot of talk is said about HD, however, he proved that down the line he was the guy who took over the division and ended up with a positive record at that.
Giants 28 VS Eagles 26
Due to the Commanders and Saints losing last week, I was able to rest my starters in this one. I have had a string of injuries lately and didn’t want to risk any more for a chance to go up in spots. It didn’t matter to me who I faced in the playoffs I was perfectly fine sitting the starters. This was a close game that Pickett commanded and almost won. Pickett and Gainwell had the offense going and were able to get us up to a 20-6 lead but this is where it fell apart. The defense ended up breaking down and letting up deep passes and longer runs to let the Giants get back into the game and take the lead. In the last minutes of the fourth quarter, Pickett led a great drive down and scored a touchdown to make it a 2 point game. I went for two and had a man open in the back of the endzone. Pickett put just a little bit too much on it and the catch was made but the feet were not in bounds. This was a great effort given by my backups. It was a good win for the Giants and a win that secured their playoff spot.
Bengels 24 VS Steelers 18
The Steelers just aren’t good. They came into the league and advertised that they were going to take it over by storm. This game wouldn’t have changed anything about their season but it would have shown that they aren’t the worst team in the league. Turns out they are the worst team in the league and no matter what, I’d expect a different coach to take over this team at the end of the season. This was a good win for Vet and ensured that he would be safe from the carousel this offseason. Burrow will be losing his abilities so him being an 87 throw power slower quarterback might entice him to take a quarterback with their top pick.
Saints 41 VS Buccaneers 35
This had to hurt. If the Saints would have won the game against the Raiders they would have been in the playoffs. It’s also very disappointing when you tie the record of the playoff teams but don’t get in due to tiebreakers. It makes you think about all of the what if scenarios and if i would have just done this differently we would have got in. It’s not the ending that the Saints wanted but it doesn’t mean that they didn’t have a good season. Carr and the entire Saints team overplayed their expectations this year. Carr played well enough and will surely be moved up to superstar status. This was a great win to show the Buccaneers that even though they won the division this year, don’t think that will have it easy next year.
Chiefs 41 VS Broncos 31
We finally got a new user for the Broncos but maybe the computer would have played better. This was a game that was pretty close given the disparity of the rosters. Nix wasn’t the same player under Doc as he was under the computers rule but he played well enough. He threw for 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. The interceptions are the reason they lost this game. When playing the Chiefs, you have to force them to turn the ball over or you have to match them point for point. Neither of these things happen. The defense was no match for Mahomes as he completed 70 % of his passes for over 300 yards and 5 touchdowns. This is the year for the Chiefs, it feels like Hype might get that ring this year.
Seahawks 14 VS Rams 20
This was a sim game that didn’t go well for the Rams. You’d like to either win the game by playing the user or lose the game if you have to have it sim. None of that happened and it was the worst case scenario for them.
49ers 35 VS Cardinals 45
After that big win versus one of the best teams in the league in the Lions, the 49ers come out and lose a game against a divisional opponent. Both of the offenses played very well, except for the fact that Purdy threw 3 interceptions. This has been a problem for him this entire season. He can throw the ball successfully but has issues with the turnovers. I don’t know if he’ll be the quarterback next season, but if so he won’t have his abilities. This was a very disappointing season for a niners team that had everything they needed to win the division this season. As for the Cardinals, it was a great win for a team that had an up and down season, one that was also full of injuries.
Chargers 39 VS Raiders 42
The Raiders had an up and down season, one in which they beat great teams like in this game and other times where they lost to the computer. You look back at your season and see a computer loss and you feel sick because now you think about the what ifs. It’s one thing to be in this situation when you lose to user teams but it’s just sickening to think about when you lost to the computer. The Raiders need a new quarterback and maybe with their non playoff draft pick, they will be able to draft one. They can take the momentum that they had with this win into next season and hopefully get into the playoffs next season.
Dolphins 20 VS Jets 16
Both of these teams had high expectations coming into the season. The AFC was wide open and both of these teams had coaches and players that could have taken the teams far. It didn’t happen for either team. Both teams have problems with throwing interceptions and it’s ironic that both teams threw 4 more interceptions and it ended up being a close game. Watson and Rodgers threw for 4 interceptions combined however, not to be outdone, Tua and Thompson threw for 6 interceptions combined. The funny part is how many teams have won a game throwing 6 interceptions. You can now add the Dolphins to this list. I don’t know who the quarterback will be for them but whoever it is can take that momentum into next season and hopefully throw less interceptions.
