How has Trent Williams’s experience in the league helped the team so far?
I love the guy, he has been such a leader for the entire team and has been a focal point in ensuring that the team understands my vision for how I want this team to function going into the next season. He has been one of the first in the building when we go to our practices and he is one of the last out, always making sure that the guys are giving it their all in each practice.
Over your career, what makes a team better at not turning the ball over as the season goes along? What kind of things you need to emphasize? How much of it is coaching? How much of it is a mental part? Physical part?
It all starts with discipline in my eyes, if the team isn't disciplined enough, they will make mistakes whether that is a penalty or whether it is from missing assignments that lead the team backward. When a team has to try and get a 3rd and long, the defense will expect the pass and they are looking to make a play at that point. Football is a mind game more than anything in my opinion, you don't have to be the fastest or the strongest on the field to beat out the opponent, you have to be the one more prepared for the game. My plan with the team is to prepare them to succeed in both aspects of the ball, limiting turnovers on offense and forcing turnovers on defense.
Who is your quarterback, and why?
Right now, we don't have a definite answer to that question. We had Brock Purdy, but with me signing on when he was injured in a contract year, the owners and I thought it best to try and draft a rookie to our team instead of sticking with Purdy. While we love Purdy, we also have to look at what would happen to us if we signed him. His contract is too much for us to stay competitive, so we have let him go to Free Agency. Our plans for next year are to get a QB from the Free Agency who has the opportunity to start and then we are going to be drafting a QB in the draft that will either take the starting spot from who we sign or they will sit for a couple of games at least this season behind the QB we gun for.
