Reporter: “Coach, this offseason saw you make some bold moves, including trading Marlon Humphrey, acquiring pick 12, and ultimately flipping that to bring in Derek Stingley Jr. Can you walk us through the thought process behind these decisions and how you feel about them now?”
Coach JacNOff:
“Absolutely. These were not easy decisions, but they were ones we felt were necessary for the direction of this team. Trading Marlon Humphrey was the first big step. He’s been a fantastic player for us, but the reality is, he wasn’t the same guy we’ve seen in past years. It’s tough to move on from someone like that, but we had to make a move that benefited the team both now and in the future. Getting a fourth-round pick and Darius Robinson in return gave us immediate depth on the defensive line while also opening up flexibility to reshape the roster.”
On acquiring pick 12:
“After the Humphrey trade, we knew we had to be aggressive. Acquiring pick 12 meant moving a future first-round pick, but we saw an opportunity to go out and get a top-tier player in this draft. We didn’t want to sit back and wait; we wanted to take control and make something happen.”
On flipping pick 12 for Derek Stingley Jr.:
“Once we had pick 12, the focus shifted to finding a cornerstone player, and Derek Stingley Jr. checked all the boxes. He’s an elite young corner who fits the identity we want in our secondary. He’s got the ability to lock down the best receivers in the league and still has room to grow into one of the best at his position. Trading pick 12 to get him wasn’t a decision we took lightly, but in the end, we felt the value was undeniable.”
On the new-look defense:
“With Stingley, Darius Robinson adding depth to the D-line, and the talent we’ve added through the draft like Jeremiah Cooper and Caleb Bacon, we’re building a defense that’s young, fast, and hungry. The secondary has a chance to be something special, especially with Tyrann Mathieu mentoring these young guys. It’s a group that can grow together and set the tone for years to come.”
Reporter: “Coach, you’ve taken some risks this offseason. Do you feel confident those moves will pay off?”
Coach JacNOff:
“Absolutely. In this league, you can’t be afraid to make tough decisions if you want to win. We didn’t just make moves for the sake of it; we made calculated decisions that align with our long-term vision. I believe in this group of players, and I believe in what we’re building here. Now it’s about putting it all together on the field.”
Reporter: “Thanks, Coach. Looking forward to seeing how this team comes together.”
Coach JacNOff:
“Appreciate it. We’re ready to prove ourselves.”
