How quickly can you tell if a young player is a football player if he thinks about it because it seems like at the Combine they’re all saying the right thing and it’s the job. How quickly does it take?
You know that stuff long before the combine. Usually through the Intel you gather from the scouting process and the school you get a pretty good picture of a guy's makeup. And then if for some reason it falls through the cracks, you find out immediately in training camp.
How valuable is the self-scouting process that you go through during the Bye Week? There's the physical piece, but also that component, as well.
It's extremely valuable. We look at everything from staff to players to operations, the whole deal. We figure out strengths weaknesses and opportunities, and go from there. Not too complicated.
The defense is getting a lot of criticism lately for their level of play. Are you planning to make any changes?
We don't pay any attention to praise or criticism if it's coming from outside the locker room. It's not productive or valuable. All I know is I have confidence in every player and coach on that side of the ball to go out there and compete at a high level with anyone we face.
