With the 3rd pick in the NFL draft, there were talks with teams to trade with the 49ers but none had fallen through and the team took LT Jordan Seaton from Colorado. This was a need for the team as Crawford didn’t develop as well as expected and with little knowledge on Tackles, Jordan was picked up. He was seen as a reach by other owners which isn’t the greatest but he and Crawford are going to be fighting for the starting RT position on the line so he is someone that is good enough for the line to start.
The 2nd round pick saw the team looking again for another offensive lineman and they went with one of the best in the draft with RG Jager Burton out of Kentucky, the interior rookies were better scouted and Jager was one of the best interior guys there. His skill set is great for a guy coming out of college and he is instantly slotted to start at RG for the team.
The 3rd round was good in that the team was able to pick up LG Luke Jones as well from UAB, one of the youngest in the draft at 21 years old but his skill set is much higher in the young stud, he is perfect for the LG position on the team and he is pairing nicely with Trent Williams on the left side.
The 4th round pick for the team was finally on defense with DT Christen Miller out of Georgia. He was picked up to help out the rising star in Walter Nolen and he has already shown signs of being a star himself. His big frame will be huge for disrupting the rushing attacks which was a big weakness of the team last season.
The 5th round would see the team drafting FS Conrad Hussey out of Florida State. He’s a very physically gifted player with huge bursts of speed and a knack for covering up players with ease. he was picked up to potentially start over Ji’Ayir Brown who was good for the team but is on the slower side which gets hindered against the fast opponents in the division.
The team was thinking about trading the 6th round pick to either the Panthers or Patriots but went about with picking up SS Vincent Nunley from Washington. He was not drafted from a need as Talanoa Hufanga has been good throughout the season so he is mainly looked at for depth in the secondary.
One of the biggest surprises for the 49ers was that the guy they were thinking about taking in the 6th but didn’t due to them wanting to trade, they still managed to get the RE R Mason Thomas out of Oklahoma. This guy has already shown signs of being a SS for the team and he will be getting snaps in each game while Danielle Hunter mentors him before he starts for the team next year.
With the draft picks being over for the team, they went into free agency to pick up some rookies in areas of need. They would pick up C Chandler Strong who is vastly underrated, looking to be an instant starter for the team already. TE Preston Howard is a solid guy that can fit in at the TE 2 spot underneath Haisz that joined the team.
