Transcript: Panthers Head Coach Press Conference

What are your thoughts about the Bears going into this week?

The Bears? Oh, we know exactly what we’re getting into this week. They love to run their QB like it’s Madden Ultimate Team and spam empty 5-wide like it’s the only formation in the playbook. It’s basically backyard football at this point—snap the ball, sprint around, and hope for the best. Very high-level strategy right there. I'm sure they think it's keeping defenses on their toes, but at some point, you’ve got to wonder if they just forgot running backs exist.

Look, we respect every opponent, but let’s be real—gimmicky offenses only work for so long. Eventually, you have to line up, make real reads, and execute like a professional football team. If they want to keep rolling out the same old tricks, that’s fine. We’ll be ready. They can run their QB all they want, but those hits add up. And if they think empty formations are the cheat code, they might want to double-check their protection schemes before our pass rush starts introducing itself in the backfield. We know what’s coming, and we know how to handle it. Let’s see if they’ve got anything else in their bag besides ‘run around and pray.’

Can you summarize what it was like playing against the Falcons last week?

Oh, we knew going in that this one was going to be interesting. Apparently, their coach caught wind of our press conference last week and felt some kind of way about it. Guess we struck a nerve. You love to see that extra motivation—makes the game a little more fun. That being said, we weren’t exactly trying to get into a war of words, but if the truth stings, well… that’s not our problem.

On the field, it was a tough game, no doubt about it. We made some mistakes, turned the ball over more than we usually do, and that gave them opportunities they capitalized on. But we’re not going to act like this was some kind of statement win for them—at the end of the day, we know what we’re capable of, and we’ll be ready when we see them again later this season. If they think one win changes anything, they might want to pump the brakes. We’ll remember this one, and next time, we’ll be the ones making them ‘feel some kind of way.’

Can you talk about what it’s like to prepare to go against a player like Caleb Williams?

Well, normally, preparing to face a player like Caleb Williams would be a huge challenge. He’s a great quarterback—one of the most talented in the league, a guy who has proven he can make plays at a high level. But, uh… apparently, the Bears don’t see it that way. For reasons beyond anyone’s understanding, they’re not even starting him. You’d think having a QB like that would be a blessing, but I guess the Bears decided, ‘Nah, we’re good.’ Maybe they’re running some sort of social experiment, trying to see how far they can go without playing their best player.

Look, we don’t make their decisions for them, but I’ll say this—if they want to keep giving us an easier matchup, we’ll gladly take it. It’s not often you see a team willingly sit a quarterback of Caleb’s caliber, but hey, it’s Chicago. They do things a little differently over there. Maybe they lost a bet. Maybe they’re just bored. Either way, we’re not questioning it—we’re just preparing for whoever they put out there. If they ever decide to stop overthinking it and actually play their best QB, we’ll be ready for that, too.
