Transcript: 49ers Head Coach Press Conference

How does the loss this week prepare you for the next game?

It was disheartening to see us lose, but we are still vying for winning out. It'll be tough for us to get into the playoffs but we're still going to keep up our competitiveness spirit. if we don't make the playoffs, we'll at least end the season on a high note which can help us as we go into the offseason

Can you summarize what it was like playing against the Lions last week?

We started off hot as soon as the game started. we got an efficient opening drive td and our first possession on defense, we were able to strip sack Nico and pick up the ball to return it to the endzone. This momentum would carry us in the game as it would take the backups of the Lions to make any sort of decent play against the team.

Can you talk about the development of Jordan Seaton so far?

He has been playing solid for the team on the opposite side of Trent Williams, his name isn't getting called that often which is always a plus as an offensive lineman.

What makes Kenneth Walker III so good?

He has great speed and when he is in the open field, it's hard to be able to tackle him by yourself. It's not a matter of if he can have a good game on the ground, but when as he is one of the best runningbacks in the league.

What were some of the contributing factors to the loss this week?

We just seemed like a different team than we were when we were on our winning streak, we weren't able to limit the rushing or passing attack on defense, and our offense seemed anemic as we weren't able to really produce anything.

How do you see the competition level in the NFC West currently?

We are looking at a division that could have any of the 4 teams make playoffs so that shows you how good this division is, the worst team is us and we are locked in at the 10th seed at worst. We are looking to end this season with a sweep of the Rams as we got swept by both the Seahawks and Cardinals already.

Can you describe kind of the energy or the mood and the vibe in the building now coming in the home stretch?

It hasn't changed much, even in the loss, we were able to bounce back and find some things that we liked so we are fine with the result and will continue our trek of winning out.

Is quarterback a priority for this team in the upcoming draft?

We might target a QB late in the draft but nobody that has an early round grade is going to be sought after by our team, Noah Fifita has done too good for this team to bench him in his 3rd season.

When the schedules were released this past offseason, analysts said you had one of the easier schedules they've seen. Do you see it that way as well?

The only division that we had that was considered easy would have been the AFC teams since they have performed significantly worse than the NFC so far. The NFC has been a great conference as a whole and the competition we have seen has been strong for the season.

The majority of your team is under the age of 26. Is that a conscious effort to have such a young team?

The majority of the young guys are showing great skill and are able to get the starting position over those that are older. Those vets that are starting are showing that they can mentor the young guys perfectly and it has made this team better than before.

Can you speak to the overall team health?

We are getting injuries in every game now which are multi-week so that isn't ideal, the team is still playing with heart and have a next man up mindset for when the guys go down.
