Cardinals Soar in OT! Arizona Outlasts Saints 41-38 in Season Opener

What. A. Game.

The Arizona Cardinals opened the 2025 season in pure heart-pounding fashion, storming into New Orleans and walking away with a dramatic 41-38 overtime win. From Kyler Murray’s fireworks to a last-second Saints miscue, this one had it all — and Cardinals fans got an early taste of just how exciting this season could be.

Murray was in video-game mode, torching the Saints’ defense for 434 yards and five touchdowns on 26-of-39 passing. Even with three interceptions, the Cardinals’ QB1 kept delivering dagger throws in clutch moments. Tight end Trey McBride was nearly unstoppable, hauling in 10 passes for 186 yards and two highlight-reel touchdowns. Running back Trey Benson kept things steady on the ground with 75 yards on 14 carries, giving the offense the balance it needed.

The defense also came up with big-time plays when it mattered most. Linebacker Owen Pappoe was everywhere, racking up four tackles, forcing a fumble, picking off a pass, and breaking up multiple passes to end drives.

But make no mistake — the Saints gave Arizona all they could handle. Spencer Rattler threw for 325 yards and three scores, Alvin Kamara ran wild for 145 yards, and Rashid Shaheed lit up the secondary with 159 yards and a touchdown. It looked like the Cardinals were about to suffer a heartbreaking loss when New Orleans lined up for a 30-yard game-winning field goal in the final seconds of regulation… but the kick went wide. Cardinals Nation held its breath — and suddenly, we were headed to overtime.

That’s when Murray and the offense slammed the door. Marching the field with ice in his veins, Murray set up the winning score to deliver an unforgettable opening-week victory.

Cardinals Nation, buckle up — if Week 1 is any indication, this season is going to be electric. Arizona is 1-0 and riding high heading into the home opener.
