Gators Continue Recruiting Surge: Florida Lands 4-Star CB Nakobe Okoye and 3-Star EDGE Ezekiel Bartu

The Florida Gators continue to make serious noise on the recruiting trail, locking down two more key prospects this week in what’s shaping up to be one of the deepest and most complete recruiting classes in the country. The coaching staff secured commitments from 4-star cornerback Nakobe Okoye, a lockdown defender out of Millbrook, Alabama, and 3-star edge rusher Ezekiel Bartu, one of the top-rated three-star prospects nationally. With these two signings, Florida’s 2026 class continues its ascent — and momentum is clearly on Gainesville’s side.

Nakobe Okoye: The Alabama Shutdown Specialist

Standing 6’2” with elite athletic traits, Nakobe Okoye brings a physical and polished presence to the Gator secondary. Hailing from Millbrook, Alabama, Okoye has been turning heads since his Pop Warner days when he played both receiver and cornerback for the Millbrook Minors youth team. Even back then, coaches and parents were amazed by his blend of speed and awareness — traits that now define his game.

By the time he reached Stanhope Elmore High School, Okoye had developed into one of the most feared corners in the state. Across his junior and senior seasons, he racked up 72 tackles, 7 interceptions, 14 pass breakups, and even added 3 defensive touchdowns. His long frame and recovery speed made it nearly impossible for opposing quarterbacks to throw his way.

Scouting reports praise his raw athleticism and versatility. Okoye boasts 92 speed, 94 acceleration, 91 change of direction, and a natural ability to shadow receivers downfield. His 77 man coverage and 65 zone coverage ratings speak to his man-first mentality — he loves the challenge of going one-on-one with the top opposing wideouts.

Though still refining his technique and awareness (graded at 70), his physical tools are elite. Florida cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond is already excited about what he can become in Gainesville.

“Nakobe reminds me of some of the best corners I’ve ever coached,” Raymond said. “He’s got the speed, the confidence, and that fire you can’t teach. He’ll fit right into what we do defensively.”

Okoye also cited Florida’s recent defensive resurgence and SEC pedigree as reasons for his commitment.

“Florida’s where dogs go to compete,” Okoye said. “I want to line up against the best receivers every Saturday. Coach Raymond made it clear I’ll get that chance early.”

Ezekiel Bartu: Relentless Pressure off the Edge

Joining Okoye in the Gators’ latest wave of commitments is Ezekiel Bartu, a 3-star edge rusher who’s anything but ordinary. Hailing from Georgia, Bartu brings a mix of power and speed that makes him a nightmare for offensive tackles.

At 6’4” and 250 pounds, Bartu’s physical traits are already college-ready. He’s clocked at 84 speed and 82 strength, giving him a burst off the line that pairs perfectly with his ability to bull rush or bend the edge. In his senior season at Eastside High, Bartu posted 61 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks, establishing himself as one of the most disruptive defenders in his region.

Recruiting analysts describe Bartu as a “motor guy” — someone who never takes a play off and thrives on outworking opponents. He’s the type of prospect who fits perfectly into Florida’s developing front seven rotation. Defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong was instrumental in Bartu’s recruitment and praised his versatility.

“Zeke’s got that rare blend of quickness and strength,” Armstrong said. “He’s explosive off the edge, but he’s also disciplined enough to play within our system. He’s going to make an impact earlier than people think.”

For Bartu, the decision to commit to Florida was about development and culture.

“I wanted to go somewhere that feels like family and pushes me to be great,” Bartu said. “Florida checked every box. I see what they’re building and I want to be part of it.”

Florida’s Recruiting Class Keeps Building Momentum

With Okoye and Bartu officially on board, Florida’s recruiting class continues to grow both in depth and star power. The Gators now have multiple 4-star recruits across several position groups, with elite defensive and offensive prospects alike.

Okoye joins an already promising secondary class that includes multiple high-upside defensive backs, giving Florida one of the most balanced defensive hauls in the SEC. Meanwhile, Bartu bolsters a front seven that’s becoming deeper and more dynamic by the week.

Recruiting insiders have noted that Florida is “very close” to landing a few more 4- and even 5-star prospects, several of whom have the Gators in their final lists. With the team currently sitting at 7th in the nation, the on-field success is clearly paying dividends on the recruiting trail.

Florida’s resurgence this season, powered by quarterback DJ Lagway and a defense that has steadily improved, has made Gainesville an increasingly attractive destination for top talent.

“Winning sells,” Coach said in a recent press conference. “Recruits see the direction we’re heading. They see our culture, our discipline, and the results. That’s why guys like Nakobe and Ezekiel want to be part of what we’re building here.”

The Gator Standard Rising Again

For Florida fans, these signings are a reminder that the Gator Standard is returning in full force. The combination of elite athleticism, high-character recruits, and proven player development is setting the foundation for sustained success.

Nakobe Okoye represents the next wave of Florida’s DBU legacy — a long line of elite corners who’ve worn the orange and blue with pride. His ability to lock down receivers and bring physicality to the secondary will make him an instant fan favorite.

Meanwhile, Ezekiel Bartu adds a much-needed spark to the defensive front. His energy, effort, and explosive traits give the Gators another weapon in passing situations — a must in the high-powered SEC.

Florida’s recruiting class now stands as one of the deepest in the nation, and with several high-profile targets still on the board, it’s clear the Gators aren’t done yet. The combination of on-field momentum and off-field recruiting success has Gainesville buzzing.

If the Gators continue their strong play and finish the season inside the top 10, don’t be surprised if more elite prospects follow suit.

Because right now — with Okoye, Bartu, and a top-10 national ranking — the message is clear: Florida football is back, and the future is fast, physical, and fearless.
