Giants Rookie Class: Weeks 13-16

This is our fourth official check in to see how the Giants rookies are doing so far this year. We will take a look at their stats from the last four weeks and see if any of them are making an impact or potentially in line for any early awards.

Edge Abdul Carter SUPERSTAR 82->83->84-> 87OVR (RD1P3):

Player TKL SCK INT FF FR TD

Carter 29.0 13.0 1 0 0

Carter continues to shine with every game. He leads all rookies in sacks with 13, which also puts him fourth in the entire league in sacks. He leads the Giants team in sacks, with Burns coming in second at 5.5. It seems teams are double teaming Lawrence or Burns which leaves Carter 1-1 and he has been able to take advantage of the opposing offensive line. Carter is currently in the lead for NFC Defensive Rookie Of The Year and NFC Defensive End Of The Year. The hope is that he gets a few more sacks and is able to win both awards. He has progressed nicely this season and the hope is that he gets to an 90 overall before the start of season 2.

HB Cam Skattebo STAR 74 OVR (RD4P3):

Player Att Yds Avg TD Lng 20+ BKT

Skattebo 46 248 5.4 1 26 2 7

The Giants run game as a whole hasn’t been very good which means less carries for Cam. He is good on short yardage plays, but his speed is a hindrance in this offense. He has played some since we last checked in on him but it’s less than before. With the trade for Mitchell, it looks like Cam will be a featured full back and potentially a trade target next season. A lot of teams could use his services this offseason.

QB Jaxson Dart NORMAL 71->74 OVR (RD1P25):

Player Cmp Att % Yds Avg TD INT Lng

Dart 362 504 71.8 5272 10.5 47 16 83

Dart continues to play well in New York, however, his play isn’t transitioning into wins. For as well as he has played, the Giants offense is still one of the worst in the league in terms of scoring touchdowns. With so many close games lost this season, there has been a pattern of Dart throwing that late interception or not making the play to win the game. The second Commanders game was the worst of the season, with him throwing 4 interceptions. When a quarter of your interceptions come in one game, you know you played bad. He didn’t see the field well, and his arm strength became a hindrance. Accuracy has been a problem the last few games, as it came down to a last second redzone throw versus the Vikings in which Dart had Nabers 1-1 but didn’t throw it fast or high enough and the defensive back stepped in to intercept the ball. Dart’s late interceptions have all but taken him out of the NFC rankings as he is no longer close to Offensive Player Of The Year, MVP, Rookie Of The Year, or Best Quarterback. He isn’t even in the top three best quarterbacks for the NFC so he will miss out on the pro bowl. With two games left, can he turn it around and hit 6000 yards, and 60 overall touchdowns?
