The Chicago Bears have agreed to send LG Joe Thuney to the Indianapolis Colts for pick 82 in this year’s draft. This comes just one season after Chicago traded a 2026 fourth-round pick to Kansas City for the All-Pro lineman.

However, Thuney had fallen out of favor with the new coaching staff, led by Ben Johnson, who is only 7 years older than Thuney, who is still said to play at an elite level. It wasn’t meant to be, though, as young players like Luke Newman and Kiran Amegadije seemed to step in and deliver the same reliable protection. Thuney wasn’t a failure as he performed well enough to be traded for a higher pick than he was just a year ago, but he didn’t turn out to be the key piece to success they envisioned.

On the other side, the Bears’ front office gains a top-100 pick as they seek to fill the roster with the young talent that Ben Johnson handpicks. Now with eight total picks in this year’s draft, the Bears can look to find a core with a variety of skills, that has time to grow.

Chicago now sits at 42/75 players with 29.3M in cap space going into free agency and the draft. They’ll need to sign 25 players before and after the draft or deal with an incomplete preseason roster. Also, it means three free agent signings will make the roster, although one of them is a long snapper. They do currently have three minimum offers out right now during this first stage of the offseason. The Bears are busy as every team needs to be, this is what makes champions as seen with Howie Roseman and that Eagles roster. As always, Bear TF Down!
