Jaguars Sign Tommy Mellott — The “Tommy Pack” Is Coming to Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Jaguars have officially added one of the most dynamic athletes in football to their roster, signing former Montana State star Tommy Mellott. Known during his college days as “Touchdown Tommy,” Mellott built a legendary career at Montana State by terrorizing defenses through the air and on the ground. He left the Bobcats ranked fifth all time in passing yards with 5,810 and second in both rushing yards with 3,523 and rushing touchdowns with 43. That kind of production made him one of the most electric dual threat quarterbacks in college football history.

After entering the league as a wide receiver, Mellott now returns to his natural position at quarterback, and Coach Ke is wasting no time tailoring the offense around him. The Jaguars are installing what Ke proudly calls The Tommy Pack, a custom offensive package built to unleash Mellott’s athleticism in ways that defenses have never seen. “When you’ve got a guy who runs a 4.3 and jumps out the gym, you don’t keep him on the bench, you build around him,” Coach Ke said with a grin.

Mellott’s athletic profile speaks for itself. At his pro day, he ran a 4.39 forty and posted a 41 inch vertical leap, numbers that rival some of the most explosive athletes in the entire NFL. Originally drafted in the sixth round by the Raiders, Mellott transitioned to receiver before finding his way back to the position that made him famous. Now with the Jaguars, he’ll once again have the ball in his hands on every play, bringing that same dynamic energy that made him a star at Montana State.

The Tommy Pack isn’t a gimmick. It’s a weapon. The package will feature read options, RPOs, and play action bootlegs designed to take full advantage of Mellott’s speed and natural playmaking instincts. The plan is to use him situationally at first, forcing defenses to account for him on every snap. “You’re gonna see zone reads, motion, QB keeps, maybe even some trick plays,” Coach Ke said. “When he’s on the field, you better keep a spy ready, and even that might not be enough.”

For Jacksonville’s offense, the addition of Mellott means unpredictability. In short yardage and red zone situations, he can convert first downs with his legs or hit receivers when the defense crashes. In hurry up or broken play situations, his quick burst and creativity give Jacksonville a unique edge that most teams can’t match.

Beyond the numbers, Mellott brings leadership, energy, and a deep football IQ that Coach Ke values highly. He’s a competitor who elevates everyone around him and plays with confidence and heart. His presence gives the Jaguars offense a new spark and opens up a layer of creativity that fits perfectly with Ke’s evolving playbook.

Coach Ke summed it up perfectly after practice.

“We’re about to have fun. Tommy’s not just a quarterback, he’s a playmaker. He’s the kind of guy that changes the game when the ball touches his hands. I can’t wait to roll out the Tommy Pack and see what happens.”

The Jaguars already had one of the most complete rosters in PML, but this move adds something different. With the Tommy Pack officially coming to Jacksonville, defenses better start preparing now, because when Touchdown Tommy takes the field, anything can happen.
