Sim Scoring The Approved Trades

Before we see a ton of approved trades (or not), now that the cooldown is off for the rest of the night, let’s score the trades that have been approved and gone through. This should be every trade of the off-season so far, besides the Jessie Bates trade since Drama had to back out, and that one trade that was picks for picks.

CHI sends Joe Thuney to IND for Pick 82

Chicago trades LG Joe Thuney for a current third-round pick, 82, from Indianapolis, but originally from Pittsburgh. The Bears and Colts score in at a B-, it would be an A-, but Thuney’s retirement was not very sim. Andrew Luck and Vontae Davis both waited till they actually tried.

LV sends Brock Bowers to NE for Pick 8 + 40

Vegas trades the best TE in the game for a top ten pick and an early second with New England, and good for the Patriots, honestly. The Raiders need a QB, but to give up a QB’s best friend at this stage in his career is bad. Straight up F.

BAL sends Ronnie Stanley to IND for Pick 84 + 148

The Colts get their superstar offensive lineman at the same price as Thuney, but with an additional pick. This gets a B because it’s simple and practical, but I’d like to see that extra pick be a future for full A+ sim-ness.

DET sends Amon-Ra St. Brown to PIT for Pick 18 + 50 + 114

It’s not totally unrealistic for a top WR to be a diva and demand a trade, especially as the Lions missed the playoffs and cut Goff to rebuild. However, PML can’t simulate demanding a trade and there are too many current picks coming in. I’d like to see St Brown for a top ten pick or something like 18 and a future 2nd, but I get matching value. This one’s a D-.

BAL sends Marlon Humphrey to LAR for Pick 77

An aging veteran corner who is still playing at an elite level for a mid-round pick that has the ability to boom or bust. Doesn’t get much more by the book than this. Easy A

MIN sends Brian O’Neill to SF for Pick 75

Once again, this follows the script of a realistic trade. It’s not an overpay, and it’s unclear which team will win. Although in PML, I’m confident enough to say Ant wouldn’t develop his third rounder AND won’t effectively use O’Neill before he’s done. A for Affort, though.

LV sends Jackson Powers-Johnson and Future 2nd Round Pick to NYJ for Future 1st Round Pick

Heck no! This is awful to be offered, whoever did it. The first clear trape of the cycle. This sim scoring is supposed to just be about real-ness, since all of them are mostly fair, but this one is not only unrealistic, but it’s a playoff team taking advantage of… well I guess Arod made the playoffs, too, but you all see the truth. F for I Frew Up

PIT sends Calvin Austin III and Jack Sawyer to NE for Pick 104 + 112 and Future 3rd Round Pick

See, this wouldn’t be all that bad if it were split up into two separate trades, aside from the fact that a bad WR like Calvin Austin should never be tagged for 26M in one year. However, it’s smushed together to avoid excess fines and the AI TC let them get away with it. The value and fairness and realism is there, just wrapped up in an unsim bow: C-.
