PHILADELPHIA — The scoreboard operators barely got a break Sunday as the Philadelphia Eagles outgunned the Washington Commanders 59–38 in a fireworks-filled Week 1 matchup of the Premier Madden League.
Both offenses lit it up from start to finish, but Jalen Hurts and the Eagles were simply unstoppable when it mattered most.
Hurts Starts Hot, Never Looks Back
Jalen Hurts opened his 2026 campaign with a near-flawless performance. The veteran quarterback completed 22 of 27 passes for 372 yards and five touchdowns, carving up a Washington defense that looked a step behind all afternoon.
Hurts was surgical on third down, converting eight of 11 opportunities and finding mismatches all over the field. Whether it was A.J. Brown working over the middle, or John Metchie III streaking down the sideline, Hurts made it look effortless.
“We were just in rhythm,” Hurts said after the game. “Guys were getting open, the protection was great, and we finished drives. That’s the standard.”
Daniels Shows Flash, But Mistakes Prove Costly
On the other side, Washington’s Jayden Daniels matched Hurts’ fireworks for much of the first half. The second-year QB threw for 368 yards and five touchdowns, adding 72 yards on the ground, showing the dual-threat talent that makes him such a problem.
But two costly interceptions — both deep in Commanders territory — flipped momentum in Philly’s favor and proved to be the difference in a game that otherwise felt like a heavyweight slugfest.
Red Zone Efficiency Tells the Story
The Eagles made the most of their opportunities, scoring on 7 of 10 red-zone trips, including four touchdowns. Washington, meanwhile, came up empty on several key drives, converting only about a third of their red-zone chances.
Those missed chances and turnovers turned what could have been a nail-biter into a late-game runaway.
Stars Shine on Both Sides
For the Commanders:
- WR Jayden Lane was electric, posting 5 catches for 145 yards and 2 touchdowns.
- Newly acquired TE Mark Andrews added 84 yards and a score, quickly proving his value as Daniels’ safety blanket.
For the Eagles:
- A.J. Brown hauled in 4 receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown.
- Jahan Dotson and John Metchie III each found the end zone, while RB Saquon Barkley added 53 yards rushing and another touchdown.
Kicker Jake Elliott remained automatic, drilling all three field goals and six extra points to keep the scoreboard humming.
Defense? Optional.
There wasn’t much defense on display, but the Eagles’ unit did just enough. They forced three turnovers, sacked Daniels twice, and limited Washington’s rushing attack to situational runs outside of Daniels’ scrambles.
Washington, on the other hand, failed to register a single takeaway and struggled to get off the field — allowing the Eagles to dominate possession and tempo.
Philly Statement, Washington Reality Check
For Philadelphia, it’s a statement win — the kind that reminds the rest of the league their offense might be the most dangerous in PML when Hurts is in rhythm.
For Washington, it’s a reality check. The Commanders moved the ball with ease, but if they can’t force turnovers or tighten up defensively, games like this could slip away often in 2026.
“We’ve got to clean it up,” said Washington coach Q. Kaiser after the game. “You can’t give a team like that extra chances. We’ll be better next week.”
Up Next
The Eagles (1–0) will look to keep their high-powered offense rolling next week against the Cowboys.
The Commanders (0–1) head home to face the Giants — and with the way Jayden Daniels is throwing it, expect another aerial show.
