Giants Rookies Revisited: DDT Edition

1.6: WR Zachariah Branch, 72 OVR

Development Chance: High, projected 8-10 ddt points

Actual Development Trait: 12 Points, Superstar

I actually had the DDT points lower than expected, however, Branch was still considered just a superstar. With 12 points, he was at the highest point value and should have been a superstar x factor. There were 3 superstar x factors and all but one had less than 12 points. Although this was disappointing, Branch will still be a huge upgrade to the receiving core and will be expected to compete in the NFC offensive rookie of the year competition.

2.6: RG Walker Parks, 80 OVR

Development Chance: Low, projected 3-4 DDT points

Actual Development Trait: 8 Points, Star

I got this one way wrong as Parks had enough points to even be considered a superstar. It’s a shame that he wasn’t a superstar but a star is better than nothing. He is the second best player on the offensive line and was switched to center in the offseason. He will anchor this line for the rest of the cycle and the hope is he can get to superstar in the weekly training games.

2.28: SS Xavion Alford, 71OVR

Development Chance: Low, projected 1-2 DDT points

Actual Development Trait: ? Points, Normal

I got this one right as Alford didn’t have enough points to be considered anything. He is a raw player who will actually sit as a backup this season and learn behind some veterans with the hope that he can take over next season.

Giants Rookie Class: 4.6 LB Ernest Hausman

4.6: LB Ernest Hausman, 68 OVR

Development Chance: Low, projected 3-4 DDT points

Actual Development Trait: ? Points, Normal

I got this one right as he didn’t have enough points to be considered anything. He is a raw player who will actually sit as a backup this season and learn behind some veterans with the hope that he can take over next season. He is being focused, trained each week and progressing nicely.

Giants Rookie Class: 4.28 LT Shiyazi Pete

4.28 LT Shiyazi Pete, 71 OVR

Development Chance: Low, projected 0-1 DDT points

Actual Development Trait: ? Points, Normal

I got this one right as Pete didn’t have enough points to be considered anything. He is a raw player who will actually sit as a backup this season and learn behind some veterans with the hope that he can take over next season. He has very good pass blocking but is raw everywhere else. He could come in on pass plays and succeed.

Giants Rookie Class: 5.6 MLB Bryce Boattcher

5.6 MLB Bryce Boattcher, 66 OVR

Development Chance: High, projected 6-7 DDT points

Actual Development Trait: 10 Points, Star

Boattcher not getting superstar was just a travesty. He had enough points to even get to superstar x factor but only was determined to be a star. This hurt his value as he was literally picked with the hope that he would be a superstar or above. He will not play unless everyone on the team is hurt.

Giants Rookie Class: 6.6 C Connor Tollison

6.6 C Connor Tollison, 63 OVR

Development Chance: Low, projected 1 DDT points

Actual Development Trait: ? Points, Normal

This one was right and really just a bad pick all around. Tollison might become a okay player in season 4 but he won’t do anything but be a bench warmer for a long time.

Giants Rookie Class: 6.27 QB Behren Morton

6.27 QB Behren Morton, 62 OVR

Development Chance: MID projected 5 DDT points

Actual Development Trait: 7 Points, Star

This pick panned out as Morton was able to get a star development trait. He had more points than I projected which was nice, but you had a 7 point guy make a superstar which is what I was hoping for Morton. If he became a superstar, he would be the starter. For now, he will back up Dart in case anything happens.

The Giants hit on a decent amount of players in the draft that they could actually use for the time. Hitting 4 out of 8 players for a development trait is something that any team would be happy with. Now is the time to focus these players so they are ready to take over next season.
