Week 2: Giants VS Cardinals ( The Tale Of Two Games)

The Giants head over to Arizona in week 2. The talk in New York before week twos game is the two trades that were made. The Giants sent over a second round pick for superstar free safety Justin Simmons and shipped out right end Leonard Williams for DT Alim McNeil.

Simmons already played in week so he couldn’t make the trip to Arizona, however McNeil was able to fly with the team. McNeil is a raw player who will fit behind Lawrence in the depth chart, but with content will turn into one of the best defensive tackles in the game paired with Lawrence.

The Giants wanted to start off strong in this game however, that was far from the case. The home field advantage and m factor of quarterbacks immune to pressure came in handy for the home team as they were able to help with the throw penalties that Tune would normally have each throw. This resulted in Tune driving down the field with pin point accuracy, however, a bad choice throw right to Okereke ended the drive in an interception. The Giants at their own end zone couldn’t do much and had to punt.

The Cardinals and Tune would then waste most of the clock in the first half, with the Giants only getting two normal possessions leading to a 10-0 lead for the Cardinals. At the half, Coach Burn switched his game-plan and the Giants would come out of the half and score a touchdown in back to back drives to go up 14-10. After a few back and forth drives, Tune would once again drive the field and score a touchdown for a 17-14 Cardinal lead. Jones would turn the ball over on downs on the following drive after throwing the same pass to a presnap open defender like week 1. The Cardinals would drive down to the 26 yard line where on 3rd and 18, with 1:52 left on the clock, the team just laid down and refused to play. They wouldn’t pick a play, they wouldn’t hike the ball, they wouldn’t do anything. The entire stadium was dumb founded at this reaction which resulted in the referees kicking them out of the game, resetting the score and statistics in the process.

Coach Que offered a full restart the following day, an offer which Coach Burn accepted. The next day that offer was rescinded by Coach Que where he wanted to recreate the score and statistics just how they were. After a disagreement between the coaches, it was finally settled upon that a remake would happen and the game would officially start with the Cardinals with the ball on the 26th yard line up 17-14, 1:52 to go. The down was 3rd and 18. This wouldn’t go down excatly the same with Gano missing a XP, so a safety was thrown in the mix to get the score to 16-13. The placement and time was still the same and after it was remade the game officially started.

Coach Burn had a feeling that the Cardinals wouldn’t play it safe and with the immune m factor gone, wanted to take advantage of carTune. The Giants played 2 man under and forced an errant throw straight to cornerback Holmes i which he ran it back to midfield. Coach Burn wanted to let his star show off what he had and ran the ball with Barkley three straight times. Coach Burn wasn’t taking any chances so after a jet sweet and inside zone, it was 3rd and 5 on the Cardinals 12 yard line. Jones would hit a wide open Waller in the end zone to put the Giants up 4 points with seconds left in the game. After a couple of failed Hail Marys, the Giants would win the game 20-16.

Key Injuries:

About 6 different starters in the first games, but that didn’t matter as no one was hurt in the second game.

Key Stats:

– Daniel Jones: 4/4 162 Yards, 2 Passing TD, 1 Rushing TD
– Saquon Barkey: 4 Rushes 42 Yards
– Darren Waller: 1 Reception 1 TD

Jones played well in both games this week, aside from his late throw interception in the first game where he threw it behind a wide open Slayton in the end zone. The biggest throw for Jones was his ability to throw a ball in bounds to Waller for a touchdown. Jones was given the chance to win the game and he did just that.

Barkley, when he isn’t getting hurt, changes the dynamic of this offense. He played well in the first game until he went down with another in game injury. The second game when it officially started, he was given the ball and put the Giants in a great spot to win.

Waller, who didn’t do much in the first game, became the hero of the second. He was able to snag the high throw pass and keep his feet in bounds in the back of the End zone for the win. The Giants needed a big tight end who can make plays and they found it in Waller.

Up next, the Giants will travel to face a very very good 49er team where they will certainly be the underdogs in the game.
