Giants VS Dolphins

The Giants are reeling, injuries are piling up, and Jones continues to make terrible passes for incomplete passes or interceptions. The only saving grace this season is a complete overhaul on game planning and execution. Coach Burn and the Giants came into this week down their starting Left Tackle, Right Tackle, and Left Guard. They knew they were going to have their hands full so running the football was a priority. On defense, they were going to play deep and not let themselves get beat deep.

The Giants came out strong on the first two plays, but gave up a third and fifteen run which led to the Dolphins driving down the field and scoring a touchdown. On the ensuing drive, the Giants established a good run game, only to have Jones throw an interception on a pass that was nowhere the streaking wide open tight end Waller.

The Dolphins would use a range of short passes and runs mixed with very well timed jukes to get another touchdown and go up 14-0. Jones and the offense would drive down the field again to Dolphin territory, only to throw another inception on a throw that Waller was stepped in front of on 1-1 coverage. Third times the charm right? This wasn’t the case for the Giants as once again they drove into Dolphin territory only for Jones to throw a pass straight to the defender when Waller was open on a corner route. Waller did do an unnecessary double move which could have affected the throw, but with as much space as he had, Jones should have hit him for the first down.

This led to the Dolphins scoring another touchdown to go up 21-0 at the half. The Giants had to do something different, Jones throwing in the shotgun just wasn’t working. Coach Burn mixed the run with some playation passes to Waller in order to score the Giants first touchdown of the day. For how bad the first half was, the Giants were only down 14.

They would get the stop they needed and take over driving the field once again. The same result as the first half would occur with Jones throwing the Ball right to the defender on a bad route by Waller. Waller was supposed to run a slant and was open which Jones threw, however he adjusted and topped mid route in the middle of the field and the ball awkwardly went right to the user defender raming the middle of the field.

The Dolphins would get another touchdown to go up 28-7, however, Jones would once again drive the Giants down the field. This time, it was on Barkley as he ran an inside zone only to be stripped by a defender just running at him and getting their hand in there. The Rest of the game would be another Dolphins touchdown, mixed with Jones missing passes but would get a late touchdown to make the score a bit more respectable at 35-14.

Key Injuries:
N/A

The Giants have enough injuries so they were spared in this game.

Key Statistics:

QB Daniel Jones: 22/38 286 Yards 2 Touchdowns 4 Interceptions

Jones continues to struggle for the Giants. Maybe it’s the offensive line, maybe he is just scared and oblivious but his interceptions when receivers are wide open are inexcusable. He is a straight liability throwing the ball, but with him being a 40 million dollar man, Coach Burn has no other choice. He is getting some help in the form of development attribute requests which will hopefully settle him down going forward.

HB Saquon Barkley: 10 Rushes 57 Yards 1 Fumble

Barkley is getting the touches that he needs to, there is no doubt about it. The issue is when he gets the ball it’s either a big play, fumble, or injury. No reason he should be getting the ball punched out especially being as fresh as he was in the game. He will see an increased load going forward, and hopefully the negative aspects of him don’t turn up.

WR Slayton: 5 Receptions 110 yards 1 Touchdown

Rookie wide receiver Hyatt has been the centerpiece of this receiving core and is in danger of being suspended. He had to take a backseat this week and someone needed to step up. Slayton stepped up in a big way, getting open and scoring touchdowns. He should have had at least two more deep steak touchdowns if Jones could have hit him as he beat the defenders multiple times in the game.

The Giants offense is putrid at the moment. The offensive line is in shambles and Jones is playing like a guy who is nervous and scared. He needs to become more decisive and hit the receivers when they are open. The season is still young, but the Giants and JOnes need to get on the same page and rac up some wins in the next few weeks or things will start to get ugly.
