The Broncos Part Ways with Long Time Safety Justin Simmons

If you’re a Denver Broncos fan, then you know just how big Justin Simmons has been for this team. He came into the league the very year after Denver had brought the Vince Lombardi Trophy back with the likes of Peyton Manning and Von Miller. A lot has changed since then, but one thing has remained true, and that was Justin Simmons staying apart of this Denver core. He was just a young 3rd round draft pick back in 2016, but he was quick to absorb the knowledge from the vets of such a stout defense that led them to the big game the previous year. He learned quickly how to become a pro, as he spent a lot of time watching film, and he spent countless hours trying to become one of the best at his position.

Simmons now is recognized as a veteran himself, and he looks to provide that same knowledge and information that was bestowed upon him to the new young guys entering the league now, as he knows that feeling all too well. He doesn’t have to, but he takes it upon himself to help them become the best version of themselves, as it’s his way of paying back. Many young guys who he has taken under his wing have come out and stated how selfless of a person he is and how bad he truly wants to see everyone he encounters succeed in all that they do.

However, with all of that being said, it seems that Justin Simmons time with the Broncos has come to a close. There were rumblings before the season started that he may be moved due to financial reasons with how tight the cap is becoming, as Russel Wilson’s contract starts to really take a stranglehold on what this team can spend outside of the QB position. There are also other players being considered to be moved or cut for the same reasons, and understandably so. Some league executives are even speculating that Russel Wilson could possibly be moved, although no one is seeing another team trade for that monster of a contract, so it may be a matter of when he is cut, not if.

This Broncos front office has a lot of tough decisions to make in the coming years, and letting go of Justin Simmons was certainly one that was a tough decision to make. Maybe the Broncos should have kept him for one year just to see what this defense really could have accomplished, but it seems to be too late for that now. Justin Simmons was dealt for a 2nd round pick to the New York Giants, as they look to bolster their defense for an immediate impact with his veteran presence, and the Broncos look to build on the coming years. The entire Broncos organization wishes Justin Simmons all the best. Until we meet again, much love 31…
