QB Cam Jenkins had a lot of hype following him into Evolve’s season this year as he was a 4-star recruit coming out of high school in Florida and had 2 very productive years at Florida State before off-field issues derailed his very promising college career. Jenkins was off to a good start this year with the St Louis Steamers, but a mid season coaching change might be the thing he needed to catapult himself to the NFL and a big payday.
Against the Elks this last game, Cam Jenkins broke the NFL single game passing yard record throwing for 571 yards and adding 7 passing TDs on 65% completions. He spread the ball around like a Magic Johnson in his prime, having 2 WRs record 11 receptions, Russell and Blaylock, for 155 and 147 yards respectively. 3 other players recorded 5+ receptions and Ware also eclipsed the 100 yard receiving milestone with 115 yards. Of his 7 touchdown passes, 5 different players were on the receiving end of them. It’s going to be very difficult to slow down an offense that is operating like this.
2 games is a small sample size, but it can’t go unnoticed that with Coach KMFO calling the plays, Cam Jenkins has thrown 13 TDs and over 900 passing yards with over 70% completion percentage in just 8 quarters of football. If these kind of performances continue, we could see Jenkins make a jump to the NFL sooner rather than later as he is only 23 and undoubtedly boasts elite arm talent and athleticism.
It wasn’t just Cam Jenkins filling up the stat sheet. We already mentioned the WRs that put up big numbers, but RB Aries Reese also was a big contributor on offense averaging 7.5 yards per carry with 82 rushing yards on 11 carries. He also added an additional 67 receiving yards on 5 receptions and a TD. Safety Kareem Babb is also making a case for being an NFL player someday soon as he picked off 2 passes for the 2nd game in a row. MLB Hawkins and CB Coley also got in on the interceptions, each contributing 1 pick to the defense’s 4 interception total. The defense overall was really lights out, allowing only 171 yards passing and 57 yards rushing. The Steamers are showing they have what it takes to win it all in Evolve and they will continue looking to build on these recent performances with Coach KMFO at the helm pushing them to get better each week.
